There are guys spending over R100,000 on bikes. Puts that ancient Peugeot and the rest of his equipment into a different cycling perspective.  When the Africa Games were staged in Joburg a few years ago I saw a bike from Morocco or Sudan or some such that had a derailleur which had been welded in two places. The owner said changing gears was  "a bit diificult"...

Riding with a spanner and being a spanner are two very different things.

PS: but do you have rusty flats ?

I think you need to commute more and take less pictures of bikes in trees

This year I hope to improve on my 2019 recorded commuter distance of 8612km :P

This guy was seriously happy !

The one thing I am going to have to start doing is carrying a floor pump. The guy pushed the bike to the garage to get it pumped. Had the tool to take the wheel off - but no pump.

I am seriously following your example, as soon as I see some 26" tubes on special I will grab a few and keep them in my Bakkie, I will also carry a few bombs and adaptor.

Awesome Dexter !

Remember to try get the car wheel type valves so they can use garage's to keep the tyres pumped.

And also if you buy CO2 cartridges, make sure you get the adapter as well.

Another happy customer. On the R44 towards Stellies. Stopped and handed the guy 2 tubes. Usual two shifting spanners and small hand punp. But the guy was unmasked. The guy was just so happy that someone was giving something with no strings attached. He was really happy just to be given something for free that was helpfull. The interaction was a real humbling experience. Especially when you walk awau and get into a R200k delivery vehicle.

But I did not want to ask if that old phone could take a sim card. That might have taken the conversation to far.

I am going to have to order more soon. My supplies are running low.

Along the same vain, one of the wash bay cleaners here cycles around 30 odd km one way to get to work. Guy comes dressed in cycling kit etc. and has a few old bikes that he uses.

The one day I go out to check on something and he is struggling with a flat on his road bike. The tyres are finished, falling apart. So I shot home quickly and grabbed 2 of my retired gatorskins I had still lying around.

He was and still is a very happy chappy.
