There is a fort in St Martin which has the same star design as the Castle (fort) in Cape Town. I sure there will be a few aerial shots of the fort in today's aerial tv coverage and perhaps shot of a WW2 bunker or 2 on the beaches. La Rochelle is beautiful and has a lot of history, if that's your thing. It was the Huguenot stronghold against Richelieu and the Royal soldiers. Many of the French protestants that settled in Franschhoek hailed from La Rochelle. There is a school in Paarl called La Rochelle based on the above. Those with a surname like Du Toit, de Villiers, Labuschagne, Olivier and the like might feel a little nostalgic while watching today. They too speak French deeeep into a Friday night. France is one of those countries I'd love to take a drive around for a month. Wine, cheese, baguettes, an alp, a chateau... heaven.
