Shimano XT compatibility with STis

Hi guys

I am toying with the idea of converting my hard tail MTB to a gravel bike.

I currently have a XT m8000 brakes and derailleurs (1x11)

Which STI's are compatible with the current brakes and derailleur?

I am hoping to just replace the shifters to STI's - is this possible?

And if so, which STI's would work? Hoping to avoid the new GRX stuff if possible.

Nope... you’ll have to find yourself an 11 speed road derailleur to play nicely with Shimano road shifters. Interestingly, you could have used a Shimano 9 speed MTB shifter with 9 speed road components, but after the road stuff went to 10 speed, it doesn’t seem compatible.

Sramm stuff works together though..!

The brake caliper will work fine with the rode brakes recommend a 105 long cage rear derailleur

Thanks, so I would be in for the 105 hydraulic shifters along with a new RD.

I assume there my current 42T chain ring and 11 - 42 cassette won't be an issue either?

I see the max cassette size is a 34 with Shimano - problematic...

I see SRAM force (pricier though) takes up to a 42.

Are they compatible with the Shimano shifters though? I am sure I have read that they are.

A 9spd MTB derailleur will work with 10spd STIs - lots of tandems use this option (XT/Deore derailleur). Then go for TRP calipers (cable to hydraulic). That’s about the cheapest option at the moment.
