Well Nerd, i set out from my humble abode yesterday, Eddie’s map burned into my memory, like person woman man camera tv, determined to find your place and acquire a cup of your hopefully covid free coffee.

This proved more difficult than i thought.

400 metres into the ride, my rear derailleur broke. This did not deter me. I walked home, cleats crunching, swapped bikes and set off again.

As i entered greenside my cleats started squeeking like a pig going to the slaughter. Its so cruel. Anyway, this did not deter me.

Then I stopped and saw my rear was going flat, and the tire was in fact shot. This did not deter me.

No. I was going to Emmarentia to meet Nerd, shhot the ****, and have a stupendous cuppacino, and not even hell freezing over was gonna stop me.

As I crossed the dam wall, I should have been concentrating on the magnificent beauty of that large body of water, but instead I used what was left of my trump type cognitive function to engage my olfactory senses, to pick up the scent of your coffee. Zip. I starting getting worried that i have covid, though my lung function still seemed ok.

Then, imagine my surprise at arriving at the appointed address only to find no nerd, no coffee. I slugged down my disappointment along with 100 ml USN, and started the lonely false flat up Thomas Bowler.

At Richmond I stopped for coffee at my usual haunt, taking like 100 pics for posterity like I had just arrived in Acapulco.

Then I set off again, passing all the usual landmarks, including Milpark hospital and i felt for all the patients in it. It was calm and quiet outside which got me wondering about the frenetic horror going on inside the icu.

No nerd or his coffee, but what an awesome outing it was.
