Hi Martin did you buy the seatpost online? Any info on where to buy?

Aliexpress.com. I have bought four of them. The Zoom one is the best, although they all work the same - giant spring inside. The 31.6 mm diameter works better than the 27.4 mm, which can be a bit sticky if the seat is moved back and you don't keep it clean and greased inside. It will take ages to arrive, I would estimate currently about 3 months, if you want it quicker open an Aramex Global shopper account and post it to Hong Kong address, they then will courier to you, I would think you could get it in a month. Would cost a little more.

I have been using the Suntour (Sp) for many years now and have not had any trouble at all, just absolute pleasure.  I use it on a gravel bike and it has a pleasant conversation with my backside every time they meet up. I will never change it, ever!  It works so well, I purchased a second one as a spare.

I suppose if you are going for  podium then it is a no no and if not, it is worth every cent.

Paid in the region of two grand per unit.

Oof, that is fuggly and it must still lower the seat slightly as it cycles.  A dropper post is far more beneficial and allows you to take a bit of weight off your ass if you lower it slightly for short periods.

I'm way beyond caring what people think my bike looks. I ride it far so confort is more important than what people think about it. i even put this saddle on top of it

What is your thoughts on the suspension seat posts on a hardtail MTB?

I think of Will help absorbing small bumps making a ride bit smoother. Any specific brand or model anyone can suggest?

there is only one unit worth considering and its called the Cane Creek Thudbuster.

The post from redshift looks really good... No idea on pricing tho, but looks as effective but less hideous than the cane creek one...

well I guess beauty IS in the eye of the beholder

I agree that you cannot compare Aliexpress Zoom to Thudbuster, the only issue I have with Thudbuster is the price. You may as well sell the hard tail and buy a low spec dual suspension, for example, the entry level Silverback that you can pick second hand in the R15,000 price range.

no I googled the same one.

Cane Creek also has different versions of the thudbuster. The shorter travels versions  have different types of elastomer with 3 densities to each design. The industrial design of the Thudbuster still looks like a seatpost and not a reversed unit.

The Thudbusters hae also been around for 20 years ( i have a gen 2 2002 model) and they just work.

Thank you all for the feedback. Lots of info received. Great forum.

Hi Grant. I have had multiple dual suspension bikes and while they were nice for seriouz trails, the added complexity, servicecetc is a negative. I bought a Thudbuster ST(short travel) post fof a gravel bike and it worked well. I then put it on my very rigid Giant XTC and it transformed the ride. Offering 32mm of travel, it made my ride on trails great. The argument that it constantl changes ride height does not hold in the Thud's case as it pivots backwards/downwards, keeping the saddle to pedal distance constant. Only your arm/handlebar range changes when it is active but this is happens all the time on all bikes because of the way a person continuously adjusts sitting position, bending, standing etc. The Thudbuster has been around for decades and is considered the standard for the industry. Not the lightest but is patented movement makes it the best. The possible annoying things with it are: not easy to mount a saddle bag without the bag getting scrunched; if your bike frame is too large and you are riding with a very short seat post, the Thud' design might prevent you getting the correct saddle height; the post only comes in two sizes i.e. 27.2 and 31.9 so you might have to shim the fit.
