Runner vs Cyclist

Had an idiot coming up behind us this morning (3 of us running) shouting "track! track! track!".  Didn't know there was a race going on where he was going to loose valuable time...

Cyclists are by far more arrogant than runners.

he was on a road bike right??! LOL

Ok! Busted, did 6 Comrades one silver, been cycling for 18 months and I call myself a retired runner who cycles.......they are generally a good bunch....just like MTBers. did my first MTB a month ago and managed to stay on the bike for 30km.............I doubt whetehr the Knysna 85km will be the same though.

ahhh... a kindred spirit, I'm also a 'retired' runner, no Comrades, but 4 marathons and countless halves, well done on the silver!!

It was hard work, took 8 years to go from 9:53 to 7:22, then the body decided after about 50 ultras that it couldnt anymore.......went from 53kg to 90kg in late 2006. Cycling has been great for the gravitational overload control.

Aaah, and so we come out of the woodwork.Big%20smile

I was a fanatical runner until I had two lumbar and one Cervical fusion of the spine, which obviously put an end to my running past time.

I did 11 comrades and have done 9 Two Ocean marathons as well as the London and the New York marathon, sadly I never quite made silver.

Knowing what it takes to get silver I can honestly say "Much Respect" for that Spud.

So if we fail to agree as to whom is the most arrogant, where does that leave someone like me who runs, mtb's and cycles Confused.

Either I'm the most arrogant of the lot or the most humble LOL

Well done Spud on your Silver at Comrades.

Have you ever run Rhodes Ultra Marathon ? I'm off there next weekend to go run it (or its newest incarnation as the Rhodes Trail run).

I think the worst are the paddlers. They never greet you and I almost drowned trying to greet one.

Thanks mate but definately not justified. the guys at the back are the real heroes. feel for you when it comes to the injuries. both my arches collapsed and I went from decent athlete to sulky couch potato. I will be doing my second MTB this weekend and was forced by Dirty Twin to enter for the 85km so I am really nervous.

another ex-runner here:  3 Comrades, 10 om-die-dams - many marathons and and much other stuff over 15 years of tar-pounding, all too boring to mention.  Knees packed in (well, also a busted ankle from a once-off skydive  Ouch )  and so I switched to MTB - best thing I ever did, just wish I had done it years ago!   Running is boring and skill-less (just put one foot in front of another & repeat ad infinitum, where's the skill in that?) - whereas MTB takes skill, it's challenging and adventurous and a lot of FUN.

The only thing running has in its favour as compared to cycling is, IMHO, that the fitness pay-back for the time invested is higher.   But that's it ..

Hope the injured runner is recovering ok

.....Don't even get me started on power walkers.  Power waddlers with dinky-grip bottles and self-important arm-swinging and we're infested with them.....

Joe Louw - you dont have Nordic Walkers in SA yet? Well if you think power walkers are bad, these nordic walkers have got sticks like ski poles so they can "strike back". Seriously Nordic walkers use these poles everywhere, on the tar, dirt, dry, wet or whatever.

You took your bike to the licence department and after paying for your licence you went into the yard and some guy with a set of metal punches punched your licence number onto your frame!!!

Depended on where you lived. We had little brass(?) discs like a dog tag.

Remember those from my school days, the traffic dept even used to come and check the bikes in the bike shed during school hours, ja what happened since then, guess its called progress LOL

Here we have a small colored sticker

http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/services/wissen/velo/vignettte_2008.gif

with the year printed on it which you are supposed to stick onto your frame, costs about CHF 5 and is actually 3 rd party insurance INCASE you ride into someone else.
