Hehehehe, cool topic, @Wayne_Potgieter

Let me do a 'Inception' move on the thread.

Today I learnt:

Chappies chewing gum is turning 70. It was created in Johannesburg by Chapelat Sweets Factory's head of marketing, Arthur Ginsburg, in the late 1940s.
The company was in trouble, and had to find a way to compete on a bigger scale.
So it started to target children with "Did You Know" facts – and it was a huge hit.
The facts initially came from a Springbok Radio show, and later via Wits university.

I heard different figures.  Where did you get this info. Would like to read up on it.  I am sure density can differ.

On the TV news last night. Density/ % Ice would change the weight a bit of course.

It did sound a bit "heavy" to me!

Two winters ago there was a mad rush to clear the roofs of buildings here as we had lots of snow.  Then they mentioned figures of the weight of ice per cubic meter is roughly about 50 kg.  If the snow gets older and settles that weight per cubic meter goes up to about 90 kg.  The panic two years ago here was that a front with ice rain was approaching and the snow can act as a sponge and absorb the water where the weight could go to 600kg or even up to 1ton.

1 cubic meter of water at 25 degrees is 1,000kg. Since water expands when it freezes, ice would be lighter than this. Snow would, once again be lighter since there are many air gaps between the snowflakes. So 1m x 1m x 10cm of snow would weigh significantly less than 100kg.

I may have learned today that Spanish TV can not be trusted! :-)
