Itzulia Basque Country, Stage 1

Two Slovenians battling it out again

One in the hot seat - the older one.

Another have just left the TT ramp.

Don't blink.

Itzulia Basque Country:

What a VO2 max display of climbing with the hilltop finish of Ermualde today. Pogačar and Roglič like two mountain goats locking horns. Beautiful racing.

What an eina finalè. Well worth watching the replay.

Geez, what racing at the Itzulia Basque Country!

UAE throws a 'Joker' and McNulty has a handy 23 second lead or something.

The climbfest, the audacious attacking, the tactical shadow boxing, the parcourse -beautiful racing.

44 kms to go and the GC leader in UAE's McNulty is dropped.

There is no main peloton - riders everywhere, the bus with the big guys somewhere on the course.

Beautiful racing. Wow. What a week of some of the toughest and most technical course I've seen.

For the neutral, the best stage of any stage race this year, and possibly a few others in recent times.

No need to have these long, drawn out stages when short punchy ones makes it more exciting.

Thoroughly enjoyable, even though I paused the stream to have a late afternoon nap.

Nice gesture by Primoz. Pogacar hung out to dry by the second group.

Lekker race this.

My respect for Roglic sky rocketed today. Rode like a true champ and yet giving his fellow riders their due.

Stunning stage from start to finish.

Felt bad for Pogacar though.

And Cav is back! The GCN commentator going a bit bos there.

Going to have to start up the GCN+ App now for some delayed-Live look at what you all are talking about....

Happy for the guy.

It's been a long road getting back to a W for Cav, even though it is not in the biggest of races but  he di beat Jasper Phillipsen, who is no slouch.

I doubt Cav will make it to the TDF with the roster of sprinters DQS have, but he can continue doing what he loves and chase wins in other races for them.
