Since registering my Online UIF Benefits Claim on 27/01/2021 and after following up on 22/02/2021, only to find out there was additional info required and which I promptly provided, I have not had a single payout as yet. I was told to wait for a "Continuation of Benefits" e-mail before the payment will be done, but even that is still not forthcoming.

I tried calling the UIF helpline on 080 003 0007, and where I had previous success getting through eventually, it has not been the case lately. I tried at least five times a day since Monday past, with no luck. The phone rings, go over the recorded "lift music" and then nothing else. After a while the line just goes dead. Sending an e-mail to their Complaints address has had the the same response, NOTHING AT ALL!!!!????????

Does anyone have an alternative way of contacting them? Going to their physical / local office is of no use, as they cannot assist you if you registered online, you must register a new claim with them, and then the whole process starts over.

PLEASE HELP, I'M AT MY WITS END.

Just give up - they are Vogons. I'm pretty sure that if you do get through they'll start reading you very bad poetry.

Fortunately is only the 3rd worst poetry in the universe, Im sure that doesnt make the pain any easier from hearing it though.

Wannabe I feel your pain, I have had so many things from SARS to municipal issues that are a nightmare to resolve.

It all stems down to staff that dont care and have no consequences for ignoring the phones and email.

I think you might need to go and lodge the claim in person, its a bad time to be in queues now, but unless you can physically sit in front of a person it will be ignored.

The last time I was fortunate enough to get through was on 06 April, where the Lady I spoke to did a count down for me, saying I should receive the e-mail in the week 11 - 15 May 2021, and she checked on the system saying that all is in order, only the mail for me to do the "Continuation of Benefits" bits was what was still outstanding.

So I am loath to risk going into a queue, only for the process to start afresh. My savings are running out quickly now, I need the payout ASAP.

From what I understand the continuation of benefits is a form that is signed/submitted monthly to still say that you are unemployed and therefore eligible to receive the benefits so not sure why that would be required before you have even received one benefit.

I am sure you know this but also bear in mind that it is not 45% of your previous salary but 45% of the capped figure which is R14 872 so you will receive a max of R6638 per month.

That is still better than nothing. I started working in 1982, and this is the first time I had to claim/draw UIF, so I will take whatever I can get.

The last person at UIF I spoke to, said that my first payout will be backdated to date of claim, so I really hope this is true, I can do with that extra bit.

Hope you come right with this @Wannabe, I can imagine how frustrating this is for you.

how does that work? presumably they don't work for free? I've also been waiting since June 2020...

Nope, no such thing as a free lunch (unless you're a cadre, of course).

They charge a fee and then advise you of all the requirements - you submit to them; they vet your application and supporting documents to make sure there are no gaps, and once this is ticked off they submit on your behalf. Basically, they walk you through the entire process (and often do a lot of the legwork themselves).

The fee was pretty nominal (less than what they advertised on their website) and within a month or so payment was received. The online UIF portal of the Department of Labour is pretty much useless and I have heard too many stories of people having to go to the DoL offices and stand in queues for hour upon hour, month upon month. They took this pain away!

You better hurry though, my understanding is that you can only claim within one year...

BTW, I have no vested interest in UIF Simplicity; just a satisfied client. Feel free to DM me if you have any queries or require any additional details.
