Long story short the chain came off at high speeds and got really jammed in-between the rear derailleur/spokes/cassette. I nearly died since it put the wheel to a halt. The chain/wheels now flows backwards and forwards, as one - no free flowing back wheel. Freehub issues? Hopefully some of that makes sense?

I'm told because it's an older bike it's now going to be a matter of sourcing parts and there's no eta on that.

I hope you're right and it's enough time but I don't want to find out the hard way that it wasn't... plus, I'm assuming it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get fixed, so I'm considering rather putting that money toward a new bike.

It sounds like you should just check the classifieds here and pick up a back wheel or even just another freehub and cassette. You sure don't need a new bike, but you do need a new bike shop, cause someone told you lies.

I don't mean to throw my bike shop under the bus, I was just in a bit of a panic.

This morning they got back to me and quoted R1300 for a new back wheel since they couldn't find a free hub. They also have now given me an eta for Wednesday.

So, I think all might be well now. Thanks to everyone.

Good news, and now you've got time to look for a proper deal on an upgrade if you still feel the itch...

Yea, and as you say, it's probably best to look after the Argus 😃
