Lockdown gave me time to learn about bicycle maintenance. Reading online, watching videos on YouTube etc., bought a toolkit and off I went.

Built a gravel /cx bike out of a old Trek flat bar 7300 fx hybrid dad bike. Works great, Plenty tyre clearance and who said vbrakes aren't cool? Haha

Now completed a second build with a carbon 26" Kuota KUP HT (I thought these guys only made road bikes to be honest)

I've learnt that building a bike can work out expensive, but it sure is a lot of fun to have such a project to work on after a long week at work. I find it very relaxing. Like an adult Lego set... Fun task with a beer to keep you company. Haha

Frame is actually a bit big for me but whatever. Lol

The Build:

Kuota KUP HT

SR Suntour Raidon Air Remote lockout

Mavic crosstrail wheels

Drivetrain is mix Masala: Shimano 10 speed 11-42 cassette | Rapide crank 34t Oval | Ltwoo 10 speed shifter | Sram x5 rear derailleur with derailleur extender from rapide.

Tektro hydraulic brakes.

Bike is running well. Now I must teach myself how to bleed brakes, the rear one is a bit spongy.

I suspect I'll always be on the look out for old frames. Haha

Some years back I cam across a NOS TREK 9.8 hard Tail fulll carbon 26er frame going for a bargain, had it hanging up until I decided to build it - Took me a few months to find the correct BB which i eventually imported from USA and then of course the headset was another issue, the moola i spent on just those items made my eyes water. The reason then became clear why the LBS i got the frame from never bothered building it and selling as a complete bike - At the time they had 4 frames in their stock

I used all my old 26er parts and built up what i call "The Junk yard Dog" Every time i upgrade my 29er the parts go onto the Junk Yard Dog - recently full XO Gruppo and brake set - Now I have a 1 X 12 GX Eagle laying around after my 29er AXS upgrade, so now i'm thinking if it will work on the 26er without the RD dragging on the ground.

I hardly ride it, but its a lot of fun to work on

MASALA DRIVETRAIN!

This is awesome, well done for getting it all together - nothing better than riding a bike you put in place piece by piece..

Your choice of bicycle frame colour seems to match your soccer team. Hopefully your mechanical skills outmatch the defensive ability.😎
