Yes, huge volume. 11 days of racing will kill his MTB season.

I don't actually have a horse in this race, just wanted to mention the CTCT that he won the day after competing in MTB world cup.

If he can't be good 2 days in a row at his level, he needs to try golf.

He was 2nd in the CTCT and won the mtb.

Mtb requires a much higher level of concentration than road and must be practiced on a constant basis. A lot road riding will make this mental requirement unfit.

Have you ever raced in a World Tour Peloton in a classic for example? That level is there and for longer.

For me road riding is constant concertation mostly at more moderate heartrates. Mtb is more intense concertation combined with shorter bursts of higher intensity. When I was doing lots of road riding I always felt like I loose my touch with mtb and needed mtb time to get it back. Never felt like that the other way round.

These are the Worlds best riders, to say they don't spend time on their bikes is alittle insulting. As reference VDP arrived 3 days before means what? These riders don't need hours and hours on a course.

Sure they ride on the road, ALL MTB riders do(or should), I was in Livigno in June and the Hotel has the Willier Team in, all riding road, I tell my mtb riders to do road it has a benefit.

I'm amused that you so easily insulted especially after you twist my words. That little mind trick doesn't work on me.

I said "they don't spend enough time on their Mountain Bikes." you can go back and check the post if you like.

I recall MVDP saying his road race schedule won't allow for much MTB training hence he won't be on the MTB (and strangely not participating in any MTB races) till 2023. Sort of infers he recognises he needs to spend more time on his MTB doing MTB stuff on MTB tracks to be a complete and successful MTB racer.

PFP seemed strangely to recognise the same thing ad started doing MTB things with her MTB in training not road things on her MTB and calling it training (of course we can and understand the benefit). She even enlisted the services of an ex XCO racer turned #Enduro pro to help her. She started doing more MTB things her way and what "n annoying man" expected (I took the quote from an article with her on PB). She improved her technical skill and look how she rode on Sunday.

I humbly confess to being a mere weekend hack but there seems to be a theme whereby doing more MTB things on an MTB on MTB tracks makes one a better mtber.....but I admit I could be wrong.....(humbly).

Now back to Sam... He's been around a while now and I'm enjoying his comeback. His technical proficiency still leaves me with feelings of unease when I watch him race. Similar to  Chris Froome on a Bike I think there's a crash around the next corner. At the level they're racing I would not expect a rider of Gaze caliber to make such an error. So eve if his Strava does only show pics of him with a road bike or a MTB on the road and this is 90% of his training it is reasonable to opine that he perhaps needs to spend more time on his MTB on MTB tracks doing MTB things...? But I could be wrong

Ok, seen it now. There is no way you can see what happened on that drone footage of the crash and yet you and DnD seem to be able to determine the cause in minute detail 🙂

you need to watch the clip on  a big screen not your phone.....

Sam Gaze won the Stellenbosch MTB world cup in 2018, and was 2nd in the CTCT in 2018 the day after. Then he won the CTCT in 2019 (pic above), but did not race mtb the day before in 2019. So he never won the CTCT the day after competing in the UCI mtb.

Couldn't be further from he truth. 10/10 for trying, but work on that insecurity.
