Howzit, asking for advice please. I’ve noticed a small chip on my new fork stanchion. Either from a ride yesterday or from being transported on my roof bike racks after the ride yesterday. Is this something I need to address or must I live with it? Can it be polished out, will it corrode if left as is?

And is there something you can use to protect the bike when transporting on roof bike racks. Didn’t take this into consideration when purchasing the racks. Thanks!

Looks a little high to cause any harm but @BaGearAwould probably know better

If you rub a fingernail over it and can't fell anything just leave it

By sanding the area and trying to smooth it you'll just end up damaging a wider area than cleaning up a bad spot.

its also very high on what looks like an xc fork so that spot won't make it to the seals and bushes as often as lower down.

Don't loose sleep :)

Thanks for all the input. I can feel the chip if I run my nail across it. But will leave it be and not stress over it. It just looked so good all black and shiny and new.

And thanks for the tip re a mudguard!

As suggested apply a littil black nail polish into the chip.

Theres a GMBN how to with Doddy where he does just this. Think he cleans the bur off carefully with a blade or some 1000grit or something, fills it with a drop of black epoxy, lets it dry completely. Carefully sands the resin down with 1000grit again, and polishes it all up with autosol metal polish. But his damage was was deeper/bigger if i recall.

a chip like this so far up the travel i wouldn't worry about.
