Anyone doing this?

I’m tempted just deciding which route to go for? current fitness not that great after being off the bike for a month in Ramadan. Might just go for the 50 miler.

any idea what time the 50miler starts. have to see if we can squeeze it in before the afternoon?

Starts at 8am, 100miler starts at 7am

I entered the 50 miler. Don’t think my fitness is up to scratch for 100 miles anyway. At 87km this will be the longest off road race I’d have done. So a good start and then hopefully build for a proper 100 miler later in the year.

Lekker! Will hopefully also be my first!

as the inaugral one i'm pretty sure it will be first time for all of us!

I was considering downgrading to the 50, but might as well just suffer a bit more. Should be a jol.

there was a thread response somewhere else about road conditions, can;t find it

Signed up for the 100 miler. Haven't trained for it. Have not done any long rides over 55kms on MTB training for this event.

Longest ride on MTB is 109kms, Karoo to Coast. I trained for that and did some long rides. Seriously questioning my choices right now!!!!

@no calves have you got an update for us on this one? !

Am considering going with my Farr steel gravel bike. it has 40/38 mm tyres front and back.

Just my 2C

Ride a lot of the roads of the RvR as its where i live.  take into account that its planting season for the grain farmers, that means a lot of traffic on those district roads. lots of loose sand and corrugation due to trucks transporting seed and fertilizers. rode a section that the 100miler will ride after Piketberg on their way back and i can promise you a gravel bike will get bogged down.

each to his own i guess. I am opting for skinnier tires on the mtb with a 36/38 chainring and hoping i will be able to match the pace aswell as glide over the not to nice surfaces.

when the road permits I do believe nothing beats a gravel bike. but if the road does not permit nothing rides k@kker than a gravel bike

I did about 60km the route last Saturday on an informal route recce - pretty much 99% of it was gravel bike heaven, only a few short rutted sections. The start is going to be a slightly dodgy, a farm road with random potholes so in a bunch there can be nasty surprises but once you get to the district roads the mtb's are going to eat gravel bike dust.

Also it seems no big climbs, so if the wind plays along I would say go for the longer distance, you might very well be able to wing it even if you are not really fit enough.

Are entries available at the venue on race day?

On FB organisers said no late entries - but they also said entries would close on Tuesday and it is still open... So I guess if you want to risk it then maybe? 🤷‍♂️
