After seeing the time, did you think β€œmmhmmm, I could probably top that!”? Lol

I will let you know once I do. Just give me the time?

A better starting point to your question would be to determine what you view as top and bottom. After determining that, you can look for an answer.

Was wondering the same thing .....

North South ... RED ?

Β

Longest route .... BLUE ?

Β

Ending in Cape Town or Cape L'Agulhas ?Β  Really should be the latter ...

Β

Β

Where do you start ?

Β

Β

PS - Couple of farmers have cycled from Kakamas down to Cape Town, 98% via gravel roads (helps when you know the farmers along the route).Β  They had a 9 day adventure.Β  Certainly was not a race for fastest time.Β  This was about 15 years ago.

Β

Β

Slight twist .... has anybody sircumnavigated South Africa on a bicycle ?Β  This is a thing amongst the motorcycle travelers .. .

Thanks Chris. Me and a Friend wants to cycle the blue line and was wondering what the fastest known time was, because if we do it we can just as well try to do it the fastest.Β

For me, FKT route would start at Beit Bridge border post - not geographically the northern most place, there are a few farms that are further north, but I think that's the northern-most publicly-accessible starting point, and finish at the cairn that demarcates the southern-most point/meeting of the oceans at Aghullas.

That's the easy bit.

The route is a lot more challenging. Plenty of bikes-banned freeways you will need to avoid, presuming this is a road/gravel bike expedition.

Like, you might end up going through a big chunk of Botswana to make the routing through/past Gauteng simpler and faster.
