Friend of mine has been through three XT derailleurs in the time I’ve had an AXS one. I’ve had zero issues. Food for thought.

AND - AXS changes gears faultlessly every time - it's like magic

and you will never buy another dropout/hanger ever again...

for those on the t-type yes, but then instead of a R80 dropout, you're now replacing parts at a multiplier of that if they break on the RD.

Please go have a read up before making bold statements.

Sram GX AXS non T type(ie the type on a normal hanger/dropout) has a clutch overload system built into it. So when it takes an impact it disengages the gears and lets the derailleur take a softer impact by allowing it to move out the way, before returning to the correct gear and continuing as usual.

Have I tested it?

Yes, real world tests.

At silk road we had a hike a bike that was over 30km long over a very remote mountain pass from Kok-Art to the Chinese border road. We crossed a fast flowing rocky river more times than anyone managed to count. With a 26kg bike and steep rocky places dragging your bike over an area not even hikers bother going, the derailleur took a lot of impacts. I know of at least 2 cable **** riders who changed dropouts when we exited the valley. I have deep gouges out of the metal on the AXS but it carried on shifting perfectly. Then a few 100km later we had another hike a bike from the top of tosor pass. Same thing except this time shorter and in the dark for me. Not one of the AXS riders changed a haner/dropout. In fact I am still on the stock one the bike came with in 2022...

Watch the video below where they literally hit the derailleur with a hammer.

not bold at all champ - chatGPT is quite resourceful out pointing out the stats on the risks of direct mount RD's with links to read up.

Of interest is the number of reports of frame damage as a result of the removal of the drop out.

Im not detracting from your bike packing experience, but a data point of one is not data.

If you done any pedalling on Silk Road, I respect your real world madness. It seems Japanese parts are not welcome in China🤣🤣🤣

I think @dave303e was referring to Eagle AXS derailleurs not direct mount ones. That being said, where are said "chatgpt stats"? Would be good to see them on screen. ChatGPT gets stuff wrong all of the time and is probably more problematic than anecdotal evidence.
