Garmin Edge 130 Battery replacement

This thread has been extremely helpful and I was able to change the battery. Problem with first ride was it doesn't pick up GPS anymore? Can a cable be faulty? Could i have bumped anything? Has all the uptodate software now? Any advice would be appreciated..

I got quoted R1100 (found a guy on FB) to replace the battery on my 320 plus. (a simple 45 min ride drops the battery by 45%).

the gps antennae runs around the casing on the inside, I had the same problem as you, opened the unit up again, made sure to put the antennae how it should be and its worked ever since.

Opened it up again and can't find any sign of an antennae? Can you explain in more detail?

check that the 2  spring-fingers on the body  press on the 2 pads on the  green pcb

the circled bits are connected to a metal strip running along the edge of the casing, that is the antennae, it needs to make contact with the circled pins which need to make contact with the PCB contact points that are circled.

Thanks to all on this forum, really helped me with the replacement.

Replaced my battery on Friday afternoon, first had to get tools with a T5 Torx bit.  I found one at a local cell phone repair shop and also bought glue from the same shop, T7000.  The same they use to glue back cellphone screens.

Everything went really smoothly with the replacement, thinking in the back of my mind when is something going to go wrong. 

 

I used a carpet knife blade to slowly cut the foam holding the screen.  The hardest part of the whole process is to get all the foam backing off from the screen and case without ruining it.  

 

The soldering of the battery was easy enough, used shrink tubing to close is up and protect it.  I then placed the board back and screwed it back to make sure the attenna is still working and connecting and that the battery is actually working.

 

The T7000 glue works really well, after applying and waiting to cure for a while I wiped the excess away with a alcohol wipe.  I used a couple of rubber bands and a piece of paper folded a couple times to push the screen down and hold it in place for 48 hours for the glue to cure completely.

 

I went for a 4 hour ride on Sunday, battery only dropped by 20%.  I can confirm the device is waterproof after the replacement, forget to take it out of my jacket pocket and landed in the wash.

Just followed all the advice on the above post and replaced the battery on my Garmin Edge 130. Had a relative pick up the battery in Stellenbosch (R27) and the local cell phone store lent me his silicon glue.  Without the advice given I would not have been able to do it - Thanks everyone

I have a Garmin Edge 130 Plus that's working without any battery problems. But, does anyone know if this procedure will work on this model too? I am in any case going to save these instructions for possible future reference.

So although the generic has bit less capacity than the Garmin in, it sure would be better that the  current situation and for R50  it was worth doing.

Steps:

1. Use hair drier to heat screen and glue that holds the screen in
2. gentry lift the screen
3. unscrew all the PCBs to get to the battery
4. cut the red and black wires from the battery
5. solder in the new battery
6. replace the PCBs
7. Charge the unit and check that its working
8. Glue the screen back
   
    

This is bigger than the original battery, wires are also not the same?

could be they fitted a larger capacity battery  is that the  130+?
replacement process will be the same, cut the old battery 2 wires (one at a time) and solder on new battery wires with corresponding polarity.
the other 2 wire are for the speaker

My 130 battery appears to have conked.

I don't have the tools or know how to replace it, but based on this thread, a lot of you do and have had great success.

 

Is anyone willing to help me out by doing the battery replacement for me?

I will source the battery and send everything to you, and also arrange for the return courier (unless you happen to live near Edenvale, then I can drop it off at your convenience).

My garmin 520 battery needed replacement and after buying one I took it to our local Pakistani cellphone shop. After watching a how to YouTube video on replacing a battery they replaced it within minutes. It's a year later and I have easily 12 hours on battery life after a charge. I am sure there is a Pakistani shop near you that can do it
