Good day all

I am trying to help a youngster on his way.

What are all the requirements around becoming a registered Elite rider.

I would presume to start with CSA licensing.

But appreciate guidance on where to start this process. And requirements to be aware of.

Thnx

You would need a CSA racing licence. And I think to get a CSA license you need to be a member of a cycling club.

CSA license, CSA domestic racing license and membership to a CSA registered club.

As mentioned above and then coupled to the ability to not get dropped in the first 5 km.

What is the preferred discipline?

what is the age of the rider?

what is the riders prior cycling and racing experience?

there is the admin process given by posts above , then there is the necessary ability which comes from structured training and time.
id suggest starting with local provincial league races if the experience level is low.

Basically, if you are less than 40, and are registered to a club (Tygerberg MTB club works), you can apply for a CSA Membership and racing licence, for that last one you select the Elite cat and there you are, you are elite. Don't even need to be fast !

You probably won't be seeded as elite at any of the races though, for that you must actually race and be fast

Morning All

Thank you for the feedback.

He's into this extreme marathon mtb stuff Recce Raid, etc and has progressed leaps and bounds last 2 years at only 24 years old think he has great potential for this.

He now for the first time has a coach giving some guidance on the training side.

Cool so he’s on the right pathway. Take the guidance of the coach, who I trust has some credentials , experience and record of success.

some good viewing to feed the habit is Roadmans podcast on YouTube, Dylan Jawnson and Traineroad. Never mind Roadmans heavy Irish accent, the content is good and he’s had our own John Wakefield and Matt Beers on recently. Rumour has it he’s hunting down mr Posthumus for a nutrition chat.

Yes, been following Dylan Johnson for awhile, great information.

The coaching, is something we'll have to keep an eye on.

So endurance Mtb is one of those disciplines where there’s no place to hide, especially the XCM . Technical skills , strength , speed the ability to sustain high power output for long durations is key. Getting the admin done and then entering a few races at that level will provide good information to the coach on what needs improvement.

all the best. Keep us updated please

Thanks, yes they got him a power meter now, to further help.

So be really interesting to see how the coaching, input / guidance goes.
