Saw reports that they will have to consider dropping the SWIM portion if the levels don't subside... Making it a duathlon.

It was always going to be a tall order, another big issue is all the canal boats didn't have blackwater tanks, and would just dump in the river.  I wonder if they considered a plan B swim venue?

London did it in hyde park, and according to the Gov, it is fine to swim there, (except when the birds poop too much).

Considering they already trialed a duathlon at the test event in 2023 it means they expected it, it’s fBarking ridiculous….instead of choosing a more suitable swim venue.

Imagine all the swim training athletes put in and it could amount to nothing and potentially change the podium due to favoring the better runners with a 5/40/10 format

Tatjana is the hot favourite for gold tonight, swimming straight after pieter coetzee @ 9:10pm

the official website is a hack, but here are summaries for local athletes today

Secondly, this is of course the events that Penny Heyns did the double in 1996. The winning time from then wouldn't even make the semifinals in Paris. There was an excerpt with her reflecting back on those days. Even though she was at a top US university they had loads still to learn (ie. nutrition = lots and lots of pasta)

Suddenly feel old. I remember watching that race and josiahs marathon.

Agree 10 000%.

Seems the French went "all-in" on magnifying and celebrating the Seine river for some reason, Opening ceremony and all.

I understand they have 2 August as the backup date, and there is a backup swim location. Let's hope sanity prevails and it remains a Triathlon.

Triathlon is on. Swim was challenging to say the least. Current was really strong which led to a 3 minute swim with the current and 9 minute return (this for the top swimmers).

Wet cobbles are taking their toll, but main contenders are all together.

Men Triathlon is on the Run Leg with a big bunch of guys together and in with a chance of winning it.

Tune in if you can.

Correction, two athletes have broken away from the field and is battling it out for the win. Unfortunately neither one is South African.

that was a race of note..

imagine running 3:07/km pace for the final 2.5km lap, but your buddy behind is doing 2:57 to take you on the final bend.

Given the size of the Australian population they really are over represented in the medals table. Well done to Australia

Look at the gender split, and you’ll see 22 of their medals are in the female category. The men have only won 9 of the 33.
