I saw the weather and yes that is as kind of conditions you could ask for...

I am not riding unfortunately. A bikeless travel for 2 weeks in December was never going to be ideal. The fomo is real until I remember how tough the atta actually is.

All the best!

Yep for once I (seemingly) didnt jinx the weather - should be my 1st Atta in normal weather in 4 attempts...

Form is not quite there and carrying too many christmas kilos but banking on that 4km they cut out to get me under a sub 7 🤣

that 4kms is easily the worst 4kms of the race... you should be good for it.

I have slightly mixed feelings about that wall climb they cut out - a lekker challenge but I always felt the effort you put in to get up there causes damage that bites you later the day.

What is the time gap between batch starts usually? Can't seem to find it on the site.

Current seeding has me in A, but December training went poorly and since the goal for my first Attakwas is "survive", I thought I could ride with a friend starting in B. Seems I missed the cut-off for seeding changes.

Penalty for not starting in your group is 15 minutes, so if the gaps are say 5 minutes it would probably be better to just cruise to the first water point and wait for him there?

5min between batches

I'm also in a and rest of my mates are B, might also cruise the 1st part and wait for them to catch up

my first atta and also want to "survive" and not chase the sub6 for a silver medal ;)

I think that penalty is more for the guys jumping ahead? dropping down is usually no issue & doesnt require reseeding unless Attakwas has a special rule for this?

Probably, but the rider communication just mentions:
"Please note that any rider not starting in their allocated start batch, will receive a 15 minute time penalty."

I will ask at registration on Friday how strict they intend to be :)

I remember from previous races people starting and then waiting just a few 100 meters beyond the starting chute for their buddies in the later group.  So it might be that unlike road races the organisers are not keen on people dropping down to a lower seeded group. But I'm sure the registration people will tell you
