evening Lads..

I have just discovered that close by is a 200km route from Parkwood area Johannesburg..

has anyone done this route, and would anyone be interested in opening the festive 500 with a double century this year.?

I have no idea where this goes past and if it would even be safe to do it, alone or in a group.?

any information would be amazing..

thanks

The southern most point is a district road, so dirt for about 10-15Km. The other dirt section is the sun valley road between Walkerville and Klipriver. and also the third circled area alongside the reserve.

If you want a re-route for tar only, let me know; da souf is my ‘hood.

I would love to have a look at a tar only option.. technically i have a gravel bike and was thinking of putting 32mil tires on for this so a bit of gravel wouldnt be the end of the world.. honestly i also might not have the money to buy tires just for this.. so then tar will be a winner..👍🏻

thank you so much..

Looks like a Epic Day out.

Cant help but think a few Cradle Loops might be more efficient and Safer, if trying to get that mileage in.

It's not about the miles.  Well it is but it is secondary.
It's about the adventure.

"I did 10 cradle laps"
vs
"I had a beer at a dodge shebeen 100km from home on some dusty road"

I haven't done one in a while, but there used to be some 200km Audax routes out that way - some started at Circus, Hotel Lido and went towards Heidelberg / Nigel / Devon / Balfour.

Not sure about road conditions these days...did see in my ride descriptions that there sometimes always is wind!

I have a 100-mile ride planned for the 24th, but the route hasn't been finalised yet. I will have a chat with my club first, as some of them won't want to ride that far. I usually do 28-32Km before meeting up with them, and then the balance after the post-ride coffee. I'll know by the weekend, then I can let you know.

What time would you start your ride, so I can check what time we'd join your route.
We'd join around your 28Km mark (the Lido hotel), then possibly up to 120Km with you.

Oh awesome.! Okay i mean i would start at sunrise, +- 5am..

i would maybe give myself an hour and 15 to an hour and a half to be safe to get 28km in🤔.. not in the best shape fitness wise at the moment.. would be able to gauge it better closer to the time.. what pace would you and your club ride at.?

but im keen to make something happen, join you guys for a bit of a ride of we can. 🥳

I checked all my rides between 150-170Km... about 29Km/h.
About 71% average intensity, so it's mostly easy, for me 😉

Weather permitting, we are starting at 06:00, and riding to the Lido. 20km would take us 30-35 mins, so we’ll be there around 06:30. We then ride up to Walkerville, down to Bosco and Henley, where we will then separate; if you are still planning to ride your 200km route.

If it’s raining on the day, or the likelihood of rain then we’ll be riding locally only (Alberton and surrounds).
