After me experiencing mixed results over the years using a Wahoo Tickr strap, what's your verdict re Garmin or other brands?

I use a Garmin Edge 530 head unit so must be Any+, but I guess not blueteeth compatible.

I used to love the old style Polar. They seemed to last forever.

Polar still makes a good strap imo ... don't know if it's any better than any of the generic though.

At the same price I'd get the Polar (which was the case the last time I needed to replace) otherwise I'd probably take a chance on the cheapest generic.

With regards Ant+/BLE, suspect that's dependent on the transponder rather than the strap.

Had 3 Garmin straps - they don't last. My Wahoo one has lasted the longest, but occasionally doesn't connect to my phone (for Zwift). No problems with connecting to Garmin Edge. Friend bought generic strap, lasted 3 rides. I guess it's luck of the draw with those.

I've moved away from straps though and use my Garmin Forerunner 45 to broadcast HR. Good enough for me and no annoying strap to deal with.

To the guys referring to the Takealot strap, what transmitter does it use? The Wahoo is not great in that department as well as the press tuds on the strap.....

Bought a generic strap off Temu after my gramin strap starting to fall apart and eventually started hurting me. Havent had a days issue since starting to use the generic strap with original garmin transmitter...

Been about 5months and costed less than R200

My wife replaced her Garmin HRM strap with a Marvel strap from Cycle Lab. Over a year and still working/looking good.

The link is for a strap and monitor but they do sell the strap separately.

My garmin strap hasnt given me a days trouble, or the unit, in about 2 years..

6000ish kilometers.. replaced the batteries on it and a couple sensors middle of this year and thats been it.. all has worked flawlessly consistently

@love2fly for clarity are you referring to the monitor and strap or just a replacement strap? Seems like a lot of people here are suggesting either.

If it’s the monitor and strap, I’ve been using a Polar H9 for the last couple of years and it’s been great. If I had to buy a new monitor I think I’d go with a Coospo or Magene unit.

The strap however was replaced under warranty (no questions asked) by the local agents 6 months ago when one of the press studs came loose. Shipped to me overnight. I am however, using an Aliexpress strap that’s been faultless so far.

Good point. I'm referring to both. I've had the traditional issues with freezing HR values and press studs breaking after a year or two on my Wahoo Tickr thus I'm looking for a replacement strap and transmitter.
