Hi all.

Recently got the titan cypher se carbon expert (120mm) (2024). Not even 2km in, the one pedal came off and the threads were stripped in the crank (Raceface) and damaged. They said they will replace it with Shimano Deore cranks as that is a bit better.

Any opinions? Thanks

Both RaceFace and Shimano are very reputable brands. Your incident sounds either like an extremely rare once-off failure of the crank (unlikely) or a damaged crank due to bad installation (more likely).

Both brands make parts from the cheap and basic to the expensive and exotic. Your bike came with a RaceFace Ride crank which is about on-par with the Deore level from Shimano. So either a new RaceFace or Shimano crank will be fine.

Make sure the pedal is ok - if the threads on the pedal are bad that might damage the new crank as well.

Thank you for the detailed info. Just wanted to make sure if what they are saying is valid with the brands, as I am new to all of this. The pedals will be replaced as well by the shop that I bought the bike from.

Openmind outlined it well. It also

comes down to what you personally like aesthetically.
Personally I like the Race Face cranks, they’re also marginally lighter by 100g (claimed weights)

Also keep in mind that there are different Deore models. M6100 is the latest update for twelve speed and has a really nice look.

Gave me something to think about now as I googled and saw the different looks on the models, thank you.

I can't remember which model he said, just remembered the value he mentioned. I sent an email now and asked which model. Once I received feedback, I'll post it.

Openmind summed it up pretty well.

I would just add that Shimano parts are usually more accessible depending on where you are based.

The fact that your bikeshop wants to replace with Shimano is likely to do with this.☝️

I mean it could even be an XT crank, in which case id say you are being upgraded anyway. But i’ll happily rock a deore (m6100) crank. Bulletproof. Chainrings for (any crank for that matter) arent an issue with csixx around anyway
