I have been watching Belgian and Dutch reports of the stage today and John Lee is the big news.  That crash is going to make lots of highlights packages for years to come and guys will recognise him for both the climb and the crash. Impressive, or as the Dutch commentator said at the the top of the climb: "Geniaal!"

They definitely noticed his climbing ability.  Job well done.

Descending is a skill that is just as important as climbing.  Look at Menchov, he probably lost the Tour today because he couldn't hold a wheel on the way down.  Difficult, yes, ridiculous, no.  If it's too dangerous, just slow down and live to fight another day.

Did not see the stage "live" but followed live commentary on Cyclingnews.com.Terrible coverage and only special mention is that this is JL"s second major fall.

These commentators are like Aussie referees...

What is interesting though is that if Soler was still in the race JL would have been a good support for him!!

I agree JL is the big news, being the youngest and an"unknown" in the Tour and coming to the fore like this!Definately noted by the scouts out there!

I wonder if Barloworld executives are having second thoughts on their investment in a major European Team?...

Was kind of scary in a now you see me now you don't scenario.

And the gradient of that slope, man was he lucky not to go all the way

Impressive ride going up the mountain though

Difficult to see why he didn't make the corner. It can only be that he might have looked away briefly at the wrong moment and didn't scrub his speed appropriately like the rider in front of him did. Even just a glance away from the road ahead or the rider ahead at high speed can make the difference between making a bend and making crash No. 5 on 101 Thrills and Spills of the Tour de France DVD.

I called him last night with some questions but he told me he's busy and can't talk. Same thing with Hunter last week. Told me to call back after dinner but then ignored my calls... Pity cos I'm trying to write a lot of constructive stuff about these guys and now is not a good time to turn down positive media exposure opportunities...
