Hi all, would like to know if anybody on here have made use of the Tailfin Aero rear pannier rack to mount to a modern carbon frame mtb?And if so did you bring it in or is there maybe a local agent who supplies this product. They are seriously exspensive if we convert from rand to pound.

Looking at a rear pannier rack insted of a huge saddle bag to put clothing and kit for ultra events.

Many thx.

Hi

I purchased direct from Tailfin in the UK last year.

They do not remove the VAT from your sale, but they fully reimbursed me the duties that I incurred once shipment was received in SA.

Fast delivery to!

I used it on my gravel bike for the Munga last year without any issues (and intend to do the same again this year), the pannier was rock solid for the whole ride.

I have a dropper on the gravel bike so purchased the extension piece, dropper still functioned without fouling on the bag.

A bog standard steel tubular rear rack can be fitted to almost any bike, steel, titanium or carbon.

image.png.a223abed53b97b5f29fe94eda83c9c84.png Obviously it helps if your bike has mounting points on the seat stays or mounts directly via rear axle like the Tailfin, but if there are none, you can get temporary mounts or the rack has mounts that fit directly to the seat stays...eg Thuleimage.png.21c5418ef60f81ef1c2b80bf3367f314.png

The Tailfin racks are awesome, and they also have a new Bar Cage which I recently got....(beware said import duties!!! I never got offered any refunds on that!) Their older rear rack system is OK but the one with the fixed bag (Aeropack) is a bit odd as you have to take the whole rack off the bike to secure the bag at night...or empty the bag! So if you do have the bucks, get the latest "Rack" which allows you to remove the bag and leave the rack mounted  ...the only issue here is that you get tied into their systems...the raw Rack can only really be used with their bags and if you want to fit other brand side pannier bags, you'll need to get their adaptors..

Here is an el-cheapo ally tubular rack like that Topeak above (Giant rack) fully loaded with Thule panniers...you can't even see the rack! Bike has mounting points....No mechanicals...I did lose a mount bolt at the right axle side and only noticed after 5 days of gravel...the rack never twisted or buckled at all! just some minor scuffing at the mount point and easily secured with duct tape and cable ties!!!

I have seen a friends setup for Silk Road, he has the aero pack on a carbon hard tail. It is very very nice. Solid, simple, neat. The packing space is serious. I think if you are committing to bikepacking races it is definitely the way to go.

Ordering direct from them is a breeze. I ordered a few things from them and they were delivered within 4 days.

I have the aeropack with the thru axle and it’s a very nice piece of kit. I went with the alu version as a carbon version made little sense. It doesn’t touch the frame anywhere and is easy to take off and on (maybe 20 seconds?) if the thru axle is installed.
