I am taking the plunge and going over to the dark side and  investing in Trek rail+ gen 8.

I swore I would always only ride an analogue but my mindset  changed with time and an ebike seems a  very attractive option now.

My question is the bike comes with SRAM  DB8 . From limited research it's not a popular brake set (everyone has their own opinion on what's the best) but the general consensus is Shimano.is a better option for stopping power. Which Shimano brake sets would be a good replacement option.

I would be very interested to get some opinions from more experienced riders

Don't buy into what you read on the net. Make sure the dealer who supplies the bike sets the brakes up properly and bleeds them thoroughly. Do a proper bedding in of the pads and ride the bike. If you don't like them, try some other brakes and see if they work for you. I rode a DB8 equipped bike on a demo a little while ago and was quite impressed with them

They are quite nice for what they are. Very nice modulation.

Like with any brakes you can really improve the performance if you have a good bleed, and you use nice rotors and pads. On the ebike just go 220mm front and rear, they will be more than powerful enough then. I believe you can also replace the bushing in the lever with a bearing (like on the high spec SRAM brakes).

I think it will depend on the kind of riding you do. If you are in the Cape and intend winching yourself up Jonkers repeatedly then the DB's may be overwhelmed and some 4 piston XT's or even Saint DH brakes with big rotors may be the answer.
