i've seen a few items in the classifieds that have had me question how genuine they are, so wanted to ask what is the general consensus re Fake goods from overseas.

as i understand, they are counterfeit and should not be allowed to be sold, either in china or here.

i am not talking about stuff that looks the same but has no logos, but the stuff that says "Elite", "Selle Italia", "Sram" etc.

EG: a saddle being sold for 2k that, as far as i can tell, is a fake from Temu that goes for around 3-400.

Bike Hub has a strict policy regarding counterfeit and replica items. If it is the seller I am thinking of, it is possible that the Sella Italia saddles are copies, as all the other saddles are from well-known Temu seller brands. However, I don't have enough knowledge about saddles to determine whether they are fake or not. If you have that knowledge, please report it, and @Matt will sort it out.

I have been seeing this as well. So it is seems apparent they are all knock-offs/ counterfeit then.

The old saying comes to mind, if it looks too good..........................

What would one look for to determine a copy ? Price is not an indicator as they are been sold for 2k. Anything that sould stand out that would suggest it is a copy?

Where does that say it has been sold for R2k before? That price is just ridiculously low. That immediately set off alarm bells and red flags for me personally. I could be wrong.

Yes low on Temu but Bike Hub they selling 2k. Just trying to find out if there is a way to spot the difference between original and a copy

You will be hard pressed, unless you have the actual product in your hand, and even then, unless you know what to look for, you may never know, unfortunately.

With Oakley it was easy the extra lenses were a giveaway. Oakley never shipped included the 3 lenses in the box.

Sometimes their ads contain pictures of the actual legit product, but what you receive when ordering is complete different and a fake/ counterfeit product.

On Aliexpress there is some kind of buyers protection and after a lengthy dispute process you might get your money back. Money pay for Shipping/ custom duties etc. you never see again.

Please report any ads you suspect. I think we've picked up the Selle Italia ad you're referring to and will investigate, but if there are others please hit report - even if just a suspicion.

We've got a zero tolerance policy on counterfeits. Those found advertising fakes will be suspended.

Saw some for ODI branded grips over the weekend the I reported. ODI don't stamp their name on their grips.

And ODI are made exclusively in the US? No ways they are shipped to the east and then resold back the west at 1/3 the price.

Have reported a few in the past just to be ignored. The ads just stayed on. 🤷‍♂️
