I would love doing it, but it is just too far to drive IMO.

I'm checking and re-checking is the race on a Sunday and Monday? I'm confused.

Robert the dates are the 14 and 15 June, which is a Sunday and Monday.

The 16 June is a public holiday, making this event possible with only taking one days leave.

Travel on the Saturday, event on the 14 - 15 June and travel back on the public holiday.

Living in Upington, had my fair share of traveling on the Saturday, race Sunday morning and driving back the Sunday afternoon. Going to use that excuse why I no longer race😉

Just to add, flights to Upington has never been cheap, now...ridiculous, R6K one way.

Historically this event links with 16 June.  Turning it into a perfect long weekend trip.

Once you see the Augrabies site, both challets and camp area you will understand to what extent this is a FAMILY event.

Kick bikes through the full range if kids bikes to the serious race bikes all over.

Kids being kids make friends and start touring between the families ...

Yes, some serious racing at the front end, and nice slow group riding at the back.... and everything in between.

Previously they arranged guided hikes of the falls and surrounding areas for the non cycling family members during the race time slot.

Distance .... yes, a solid 900km one way from the Cape. The old days of turning at Vanrhynsdorp is no longer a good option .... once you get stuck behind a string of mining trucks it becomes a long slog ....  so via Springbok it is ....

We turn it into a mini holiday ....

Met up with Riaan Strauss over the weekend.

Trans Augrabies is a real family weekend away event, his recommendation is to stay/camp in Augrabies National Park!

Slight high-jack, but contributing to the whole family away weekend.

The Northern Cape Schools Cycling is hosting their event 3 in Marchand on the Saterday, 13 June 2026.

Our Schools events are very small in comparison with WC, the whole day entry list is less than one age cat.

There are now events for the children and the light event are also recommended for children.

PS. we did look at the option to host in Augrabies as part of Trans Augrabies, track layout just did not work out. The event is on a farm, track build for his children, which are racing WC league and doing great. I`m personally looking forward to track.

No photo can explain the VIBE in the park when the cyclist move in for the weekend.

From toddlers to grand parents .... push bikes to full carbon racing machines ....

For those that dont know the area .... MARCHAND is more of a district than a typical "town".  It is roughly half way between Kakamas and Augrabies falls.  So if the family rocks up for a sports weekend and stay at Augrabies, it is just a few minutes to get the kids to their event.  The next two days the FUN is at Augrabies ....

PS - Marchand butchery is GOOD !!!

PPS - I spoke with Ree Straus earlier this week.  There are a still a couple of open spots.  NIKE - "Just DO it"

It is a busy weekend for our region 😃. Had 120mm of rain yesterday!
It is the Marchand Festival this weekend and the Klipspringer Challenge hosted inside Augrabies National Park. The event takes place on the hiking trial, Klipspringer(small Antelope), they still taking entries.

Spend a family day between Marchand and Augrabies. The water level is high, but no flooding risk. Enjoy the fall much more at this hight than flooding. Disappointed that all of the viewpoints is  not yet repaired.
