narra Posted November 13, 2006 Share Hi People Looking at getting a new bike after being in the sport for 3 years I do have an 2004 RC 3000 with Tiagra groupset. But it is time for a change. I have already decided on Ultegra groupset. Maybe Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels if my budget allows it. The budget is +- 20 I weight in between 85 kg and 95 kg. If i missed something, please let me know And if you think I should ride something else, do not hold back with the comments So the contenders:1. Orbea Onixhttp://www.orbea.com/upload/bicicletas_bicicletas/A156.jpg+- R 23 000 2. GT Carbon Series 1http://www.gtbicycles.com/sa/uploads/catalog/lg_56.31.g7_glb_gtr1_cbn.jpg+- R 19 000, as is. Not with the Mavic wheels. 3.Raleigh RC 7000Chttp://www.raleigh.co.za/images/stories/2007bikes/elite_road/rc7000_carbon.jpg+- R 19 000, as is? Not with the Mavic wheels. 4. Merida Road FLX 907-COMDo not know how much it will be. 5. Cannondale Synapse Carbon SL Si Ultegra Compacthttp://www.cannondale.com/bikes/07/CE/thumb/7RCL2C_blu.jpgAlso do not know how much. TitusTi Posted November 13, 2006 Share I also think you should not ride those Mavic Ksyriums, they have the worst freewheel bodies in the world, ever!So any bike without them is ok by me! Of that list I would pick the Obea or the Cannondale but please take off those *** wheels!
fatcyclist Posted November 13, 2006 Share narra: if you're a bit of a heavier rider, I'd agree with TitusTi and stay clear of Ksyriums...my choices in what you have up there would be between the Orbea and the Raleigh...but ask about a different wheelset from whatever bike shop you buy it. TitusTi Posted November 13, 2006 Share Yes, look at the Campag or Fulcrum wheels, true quality!
Spinnekop Posted November 13, 2006 Share Narra.....nice to shop around for a new bike!! Enjoy!!!!! Well....you should know where my loyalty would lie.....CANNONDALE.The Synaps fits in as a bike the caters for the "comfort over racing" rider. The bike is built for a soft ride. Not as stiff as the Six13. FULL carbon. I have a very good friend that rode the Synapse for a year or so. He is very impressed with the bike. Raced VA with it and had no problems what so ever. Value for money I would say you should go for the Raleigh. Looking at the wheels.....# of spokes broken on the Mavic Ksyriums......5# of spokes broken on the Campy Euros.........0 And I have done more km's on the Campy........My weight.....73kg. Hope this helps!! www.roadbikereview.com helped me a lot! Good luck!!
TNT1 Posted November 13, 2006 Share Of those choices, I'd go with the Raliegh or the Cannonball... But with Centaur (Chorus if your budget allows)

bikemonster Posted November 13, 2006 Share In that price range you can pretty much pick any bike maker and your choice of material. You're also very unlikely to find a bike that sucks, so the bike that you like the look of will be the best one. Because you will be most keen to ride it. Have fun shopping around, and post some bragging pics once you've done the deed.
rock Posted November 13, 2006 Share theat orbea has class and pedigree.......its made in Europe (I think they still do?), so you can brag about that while sipping espresso......
TitusTi Posted November 13, 2006 Share Hey Rock, quick bicycle related question? Do you have an electronic version of the Specialized bike Geometries?
MintSauce Posted November 13, 2006 Share Well, once again I'm gonna stand up and proudly proclaim the gospel of Titus. Do yourself a favour and have a look at this one! Give Bowman Cycles in CT a call and ask Shan Wilson what he thinks of it. He started riding one recently.
