Budget R10/12K Wot MTB do I go for?

I did the Trans Baviaans on Dirty Twins Orbea oiz (Alu) and need to return it soon, once my wife has cleaned it properley, but now it is time to give my Schwinn Moab to my 32 year old son and geet a DS I think. just not sure what to get. would love to hear what you all ride and how happy you are with them.

You're not gonna get much DS for that money. A bottom of the range Giant for about 13k.

The Giant looks awesome amd if those prices are current I may be able to look at them. Where does one start looking for used bikes and is it worth the risk?

Simple, Buy a nice silverback hartail with good components (Full XT), sell the silverback frame and get yourself a special off the hub and rebuild using the components!

 

Nochain bought me a Silverback on special from Karstens Cycles (full XT) and I got a Giant NRS full carbon dual suss of the hub for R4000, total spent on the whole bike was +-R13000.... I'm sitting with a very top end bike in the end!!

the anthem 3 is an older model bike. look at the 2007/2008 versions of the anthem2. better spec. about three grand more than your budget though. you may get a good deal because the 2009 models are here.

I know a guy who wanted to get rid of his hardly used Giant Anthem DS for about R8/9k (he upgraded to top of the line Anthem).  Good buy,  large I think.  not sure if it's still available though.

 

2007 Giant Anthem  dual suspension mountain bike (Anthem 3 frame with Anthem 2 components). Avid Juicy 3 disk brakes, DP17 Alexrimms with Crossmark UST tubeless tyres, Shimano LX gears, Rock Shox Recon 337 front shock, Raceface crank, Shimano 520 pedals and Cateye wireless computer.

Tell your son to buy his own damn bike, then sell the Moab for a few bucks, add that to your budget.

 

Apparently Giant is releasing a new entry level DS bike for 2009 within that budget range. Not sure of the details though.

At the moment, definitely not!@!!! been off the bike for about 4/5 weeks now.... I'm useless on a bike at the moment!!
