I wasn't planning on riding today, but when I woke up my ankle was feeling ok, so I decided to have a road ride.

I was just past Tarlton on the R24, battling into the wind, when bang, my foot came flying out of the pedal and my shoe. I had been hit by one on those trucks that carry glass (the bottom of the frame hit me). Anyway as you can imagine, I pulled and sat down. The truck slowed down, the passenger looked out of the window and then they drove of at speed. I tried to flag down passing motorists to give chase, but it took around 20 cars (10 minutes) before someone stopped (The cars just drove around me while I was standing in the road!).

Anyway, I wasn't hurt, my bike was fine, so I cable tied my shoe together and rode home.

Here's a picture of what's left of my shoe.

Glad to hear you are okay mrmed, I got hit by a taxi last year and they did pretty much the same thing.

You did not get a number plate or company name?

Dam mrmed. You can still count yourself lucky. You don't have any injuries on your foot or ankle?

And hey, i know that feeling of standing in the road for help! Everyone just look at you if your nuts and drive past!

racerX, i'm just getting fed up with peeps hitting cyclists and bikers and pedestrians and driving off, or the law letting them get off scot free. that is why we have the carnage that we do on our roads - there's no punishment for reckless and negligent behaviour, and even less punishment for peeps who refuse to accept accountability and responsibility for their actions.

Agreed, when I got "Taxied" I ended up in hospital for week, the number plate was recorded by a witness. All this was then taken to the police who did absolutley nothing about it.

I don't think half of them could read so that may have been whyLOL

Wow mrmed, glad you're ok. That is too close for words.  Maybe it's best to stay off the road and on the mtb.

Man I feel for you. This is the 2nd time that I have seen shoes being ripped apart in an accident.

Hope you recover from the ordeal and that it has no effect on your cycling

geez... glad it wasn't worse!  I also had a close call like this one, the only consolation that I had when the driver just drove off was that his side mirror was smashed and dangling on a wire

another reason to stay off-road.... the rocks don't try to drive away Wink
