Right just to set the record straight.

DSTV is currently advertsing extra view in a segment on their network. In this segement they say for an extra R55 per month you can enable this option.

However what they fail to tell you is that this option is currently NOT working with the 1110 Decoder but only with the SDPVR decoder and will only be available by the end of the year.

So to get the HD decoder and your second channel on a 1110 Decoder will cost you a double subscription every month which is a "moderate" amount of R937.98 I would have thought these morons would have subsidised the second decoder to promote the purchase of HD decoders but hey what do you know, they don't.

Then remember over and above the R2500 for the HDPVR you still need to purchase a multi switch at around R370-00 plus additional cable at around R8.50 per meter for the run and the labour and installation fee of the installer.

Then over and above this if you would like to get yourself a nice little Blue Ray DVD player the cheapest I can find on the market is R4000-00. No cables either which need to be purchased seperately and range from around R350-00 to R1200-00.

Nice little costly excercise hey. I for one will be giving this a miss until about the year 2030.

My TV broke a while back, i threw it out and gave my decoder to my sister.

Best thing i have ever done. My girlfriend and i actually spend time enjoying each other's company and talking to each other, i get to read allot more. You'll be surprised how much you get done in a evening if there's no TV.

And i dont have to watch faaarking horatio cane putting on his stupid shades ever again!

now if i can just convince the TV license guys that i havent got a TV anymore thing will be sweet!!

our consumer columnist wrote an article this week about just how hard that is to get done.

......but you have no idea how astonishingly good HD DSTV is!! MuXmAn's second post is the accurate one, ignore his first post which is filled with emotion and not too much fact. Personally, good quality picture is more important to me than having two channels available to watch at the same time. The rest of my family can wait until the end of the year for xtraview if they want to watch at the same time as me.

I honestly can't see the difference. Fancy sound systems also have no effect on me - I am perfectly happy with the Denon setup downstairs which cost about 7 or 8 grand, hooked to an old Sony plasma with SDTV (That's **** Definition TV)..and which shockingly cost R21000 at the time of purchase!! and the cheapie Sony home theatre upstairs which probably cost about 4k.

All this hype and excitement around HD reminds me of those incredibly stupid DVD adverts... THIS IS DEE VEE DEEE. AND THIS...IS WHAT HAPPENS, WHEN YOU WATCH....DEEE VEEE DEEE. Ya, right, all my hair is still in my head adn my ears and eyes didn't *actually* explode.

Muxman's right. Skrew DSTV and HDTV (that's Highly Dubious TV)

Lets just say my DSTV was suspended as I ran outta funds for this luxury. Yes I miss ESPN/S.SPort - Motor GP etc...but can live without it.

In fact I'm thinking whta the hell do I need to pay T.V licence for ??

Errrr Mully you confusing me bud. Where are my "facts" in my first post not accurate.

Do they tell you in the Ad extra view does not work with the 1110 Decoder?

Do they tell you in the Ad that you will need to double your Subs if you want Dual View with the 1110 Decoder?

Do they tell you this option will only be available by year end?

Do they tell you about the additional Cable?

Do they tell you about the Multiswitch?

Dude don't come here and talk **** about me and my emotions when I am actually presenting the facts.

As an added just becuase you are so self centered to not take your families wants and needs into consideration don't expect the same from me. Unlike you those things happen to be important to me.

what I dont understand is that the majority of people in SA are complaining about High Fuel prices, high Food prices, high race fees etc etc. But what do Multichoice do....they introduce HD to SA, but for only

R16 999 for the TV & R2000 for the decoder. Now people go and make Debt again cuz the advert makes us believe WE MUST HAVE THIS NOW!!!!

I mean what kind of a recession are we in if we are buying into this HD and PVR advertising, but we complain about the R10 a litre we paying for petrol!

Particularly when one never watches SABC, but you end up having to subsidize an ANC propaganda channel/gravy train.

At least on DSTV you can get your news from BBC World, CNN, EuroNews and Al Jazeera. If you get news from multiple sources it helps to filter out the propaganda.

Exactly correct. SABC cannot go onto a decoder system with a monthly subscription because the 5% of the population who do pay TV Licenses would not incur the expense for the rubbish they broadcast.

Same here, almost a year now, no tv only radio, we rent some dvd's over the weekend. More time for reading, playing games, talking.

I believe SABC is merely a government's collector of the fees we must pay in order to have the right to use TV frequencies regardless the channels we watch. Meaning that eTV's claim of "free" TV is really an illusion. It is already included in the SABC licence. Am I right?

'What have we got'?

And somehow he's always looking the other way when talking to someone... But it's fun ripping him off for that hour.
