Can I ride in fun-ride start group if I am licence

I am a licenced rider and want to ride Sunday's Outsurance race in the fun-rider start group because it is much earlier start.  The licenced riders are only starting at 11h00.  Am I allowed to start in the B or C group.  I wouldn't be in contention for any prizes in any of the groups - just want and early start and an early finish.  Will I be allowed to do this?  Confused

Now what? Mampara says definitely NO and Jules says he can't see why not.

I can understand that I wouldn't be allowed to start with the licenced guys if I was a cyclosport licence holder, but why can't I do it the other way round.  Isn't it supposed to be a fun-ride?

At race no. collection just say you left your licence card at home.  Make it look convincing that you want to ride licenced and they will probably stick you into an unseeded start category.

What c**p.!

This is not the Gestapo, its a fun sunday morning cycling event.!

Ride where you frigging well want, you paid for the event and as in most cases its the "Golden Rule" - he who pays the gold makes the rules!!.

Be courtious to those in the bunch, stop at water points, flirt with the pretty girls and enjoy the day - good grief man, just go and do it.

Porky, that's exactly what I thought.  I am certainly not going to worry anyone in the bunch - I usually tt on my own anyway, so I won't be contesting any prize money, but when I asked the official lady at registration whether I could start early with the fun-riders, she was absolutely horrified and said "definitely not with that number"!  I wanted to start early because I know that I will probably be one of the last licensed riders to finish and I am a bit worried that the marshalls and traffice guys will pack up shop before I have done my 7 laps.  Not too keen to battle irate traffice on my own!

why would funriders start before licensed riders tho.. that doesnt make sense... however, if the funriders DO start before licensed riders i can understand why they dont want you riding a licensed number and starting before licensed riders... you might not be 100% honest and decide to cheat...

Honestly Jedi, tell the good lady, "Thanks for your input and I will take it into carefull consideration over my bean sprout and brown rice dinner".

Then go ride where you want.

What the hell is this, the second coming and qualifying race for next years Vuelta, or just a group of cyclists who just want to go out and ride in the sun, have a beer at the end, tell all our mates how good we are and go home for sunday lunch with the wife and kids.??

Forget the c**p and go ride.

fand, in Sunday's race the open starts at 6:30 and the elites only start around 11. It's because the course is laps, they want a clear route for the faster riders. Not much danger of cheating.

It's true about the officials: if you rock up and say you've forgotten your licence, but beg to be included, they will insist you race A smiley36.gif

In theory, licensed riders riding with unlicensed riders is not allowed.  But that rule is designed to prevent genuine Cat A racers from destroying the less talented, and not the pack fodder that makes up the majority of the licensed bunches in SA.  Ironically the way licensed races are set up in SA creates the exact situation that the rule is designed to prevent.

My suggestion would be simply to tell the organisers you don't have a license. You lost it or something.  They will insist you ride in the seeded groups.  Then choose your start group.  If CC are doing the timing you will have no issues.

If there's prize money for open and you have your eye on it then no, if not then ride wherever you like.
