It is really a very overrated and overpriced shop. Angry

Overrated' date=' maybe, but they are not over priced. Compare item for item pricing to Cajees and other LBS and they in the same ball park. In fact close enought that it is not worth the petrol / time / effort to go to the other.

However I must agree, the stock holding at times is very, very poor.

Another thing to consider is the discounts other shops like Cajees are prepared to give. But again, they're better stocked.

I generally don't go around asking for discounts, (unless I'm in Cajees). So I compare the labeled price and would rather go to Cycle Lab Fourways than Cajees up the road.

I've had odd experiences at Cyclelab when it comes to prices, some things are really expensive whereas others are cheaper than overseas.

I got my carbon FSA stem from them and saved R500 compared to overseas prices. They also had a new Zipp SL bar for cheaper than anywhere, and my Giro helmet was also the cheapest there after shopping around.

The answer is to shop around for best prices. I have bought stuff from just about every shop in Cape Town as well as three different overseas online stores.

If it was such major issue, why didn't you walk up to Andrew and voice your concern there and then? If I have a problem with a restaurant, I tell the manager/owner while I have the problem. I don't wait till I get home and then complain on a website forum.

I was there on Saturday, got shocking service and asked to speak to the manager. He was not there!

steynja, firstly, I do appreciate the feedback!!!!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We take every single negative report very seriously and do try to rectify it and make sure it does not happen again!

Steynja, drop me a mail and I will sort this out immediately, No charge.
Admittedly we do not carry a lot of Campy stock [for various reasons]

We have a Rate our Service on the front page of our website, we have a post box in our stores and rate our service forms, we have customer contact forms in our shops so that anybody and everybody can get hold of my Personal details. [andrew@cyclelab.com]

We are far from perfect, however we do work hard at Customer service, and when we drop the Ball, or should that be wheel, we Will sort it out, No questions asked!!!!

Because we are very, busy on weekends, we have to make use of a lot of casual [Young students and or cyclists] to help with the load, this is a double edged sword.

Anyway, I just want to reassure anyone that Customer service, is extremely important to us. I am in our Niciol Grove shop most of the time and always available to sort out a problem or get involved to sort an issue out or just give you advice. If you want to contact me my direct line is 011 707 2908 or andrew@cyclelab.com

Steynja, I apologise for this poor service, and anybody else who has experienced anything other than the best possible service, contact me and let me sort it out!

Andrew.

Have shopped at Fourways and Centurion branches of cyclelab several times over the years and can only say I believe the perception of them being expensive is just that, a perception. I have experienced their prices to be very market related and in several cases cheaper than my LBS where I get the odd discount on occassion. Perhaps been lucky that whenever I have gone there, I have been helped quickly and efficiently.

We as South Africans have a tendency to not complain when we have the chance and then regret the fact that we didn't complain later. Perhaps a remnant of the way we were raised.

Andrew, thanks for the very civil and positive reply. It just goes to show that you are a true gentleman! I have responded to your PM and have sent you an e-mail. I promise that I will visit your store in Fourways as soon as I have an oppurtunity again. With the price of fuel these days it will be diificult to predict when this will be. Again, please accept my sincerest apology for my inconsiderate way of approaching this matterEmbarrassed.

have only been to the fourways shop once (to buy a pair of shoes after i'd arrived at logwood sans my pairEmbarrassed). asked for a cheapie pair, and the guy dug out a pair of lg shoes which were the same price as the shop i work at sells them for. so i ended ended buying a fox shirt and a pair of descente socks tooBig%20smile

ok, i didn't follow this whole thread but the bit i've read is enough to make me want to chirp... so here goes (and we all know i'm NOT a 'Lab fan) BUT... when i have felt unattended to when i've gone there, all i do is approach Andrew - you'll generally find him floating around getting things done. one simple email to him always gets a response - a personal response even if hte email simply says "i'm looking for x, y  or z - could you get one of your guys to send me a quote"... he simply doesn't pass the buck on requests or queries - he deals with them himself.

i am glad that the situation has already been clarified here, but i did feel the need to ensure that credit is given where credit is due

Hey, I have the same problem! Go in to a bike shop to buy one thing and end up leaving with a lot more. Wonder if there's a name for that condition... My wife suffers from it too, but her's is worse cos it happens in more than one type of shop... Must be contagious.

You can alleviate the symptoms by using a small piece of plastic called a credit card.

I've only ever got a bike setup from CL. I've never found anything there that tickled my fancy. And besides, I've got 7 bike shops closer to my house then them.
