That's great, 'cause selling papers is their biggest concern, once something starts affecting their sales they'll think twice, and cancelling the ad is even better.

Wat my baie onstel is dat die Volksblad een van die wedrenne in Bloemfontein sponsor.....

Contact the organiser and suggest that they use their contacts to REQUEST the paper to be more circumspect about the articles that they print. They are sponsoring an event for cyclists so why antagonise the participants?

I've just spoken to Deon.

He feels that this article is being taken too seriously but acknowledges that it might be inflammatory and even inciteful.  He promises to write a follow up.

Let's all raise our concern with him but do it in a civil manner so that we might get a favourable follow up article.

I Share your point Windbreaker , but please , he is underestimating our intelligence. You dont write a article like that without thinking first. He should know how everybody feels even if its negative wel mostly negative feedback. Its time that people take responsibilty for their actions.  As for the article being taken too seriously, thats a load of cr@p. The damage has already been done.

Off course we take it seriously!! This guy is attacking who we are! Some of us earn a living through cycling. Who is he to write this sh*t?  What will a follow up article help....the damage is done.

What do they say in showbiz something like there is no such thing as bad publicity??!!

Basically this fool is just trying to make his article topical. You are right - it is about time that people think before they write/print inflammatory sh*t like this and that is the point that I tried to get across to him i.e. he has a responsibility (as do the newspapers). As I said he gave me a "veiled assurance" (if there is such a thing) that he would set it right.

If everyone takes the same approach with him i.e. "did you consider what this would do .. sattire or not" then he might just think some more about it. He concedes that road cycling in South Africa is inherently dangerous, so let's see.

If we are abusive then he will just follow it up with a another smart arsed column about how he can now testify first hand how conceited and aggresive cyclists are.

Understood windbreaker,

but this man knew exactly what he was doing, or is he going to claim temp. insanity now? I feel its time that cr@p like this gets put to an end......... he stuck his neck out, and he should get what he deserves!!!!!

We had a loss in the fam earlier this year, when a driver hit my sisters little girl of 4, AND ITS NOT NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS WHY I FEEL SO STRONG ABOUT THE K@K THAT THIS IDIOT WROTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I'M SURE THERES MORE OUT THERE THAT FEELS THE SAME OR WHO HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE!

How can he call me (or us cyclists for that matter) a twat, he doesn't even know us!!!!!!!! He is prejudgemental and I don't think any of us was that towards him?

Oertel' date=' this is very shortsighted. Why shoot the messenger, especially if he/it is contributing to the betterment of your sport?[/quote']

In this case the messenger has the power to make or brake and therefore they should be very careful what they print
