You could adopt Afghan driving techniques complete with a RPG mounted on your BMW's sunroof.

Another thing that drives me nuts in Cape Town is that stop streets in the suburbs are treated like yield signs. I dream of the day when they allow traffic cop reservists, i will be the first to volunteer.

I'm a mountain biker, so road rules doesn't count, sidewalks are way safer!

By the way, passing a car on the left is a traffic violation, ie, you cruising past a car in the same lane, so if the dude only switches on his indicator when rolling and you are next to him and he takes you out,,,, sorry for you,, you are actually liable for damage to his vehicle, you aren't allowed to be next to him in a single lane!!! seeing that we want road rules to be inforced to the max.

Not to mention the roadies just turning left, red light or not, because " we only use 30 cm of the side of the road, why should we stop".

Stop whining, stay out the cars way! you will loose!

I don't know if the same happens anywhere else' date=' but in Cape Town cars only turn on their indicators when they are already turning. They will stand at an intersection without any indicator and when they start rolling turn the indicator on. Why do they bother? I mean, if I can't see that the car is turning, what difference is the indicator going to have?

I had to take many emergency reactions do to this stupid behaviour. Does it happen anywhere else? Am I the only one finding this un-acceptable?

Using the indicator in Cape Town is seen as a sign of weakness.  If you put it on BEFORE switching lanes, the idiot in the car next to you will see it as a challenge to try and 'shut the gap' as quickly as possible and keep you from switching lanes and claim victory!!  Honestly, that drove me nuts in CT.  That's why guys wait until the very last second to use the indicators.

Here in the Flatlands everyone tries to drive in the slow lane, indicates (mostly) before changing lanes and when traffic bunches, they will leave a gap when for you to switch into.  This completely blew my mind when I saw it the first time.  The nice thing is I never get upset in traffic anymore, never throw anyone the bird and generally wait in the massive traffic jams with the other patient drivers.  My wife is not used to the new, calm me yetEmbarrassed

Lets face it. Some rules are frequently used and to the benifit of all road users (use your indicators for egsample). Some rules suck. Or should I say that the application of some rules suck (speeding and how it kills come to mind)! You're absolutely right a law is a law, but the enforcement of the law should then be complete and not just the select few generating an easy income. Discussing the law and it intricate details was not the intent of the thread and you will never come to a conclusion, because there is always another angle. Like, I can not be liable if I am using a bike lane. Just one of those silly laws creating frustration just because there are very few bike lanes in town etc, etc, etc.

BTW, I am an avid MTB rider, but no place for MTBs or any other bike for that matter comming down Otto Du plessis into the port. Do you want me to fly?

Having a good laugh right now, that in this day & age some of you are still calling traffic lights, robots,LOL!!

Anyway just yeasterday I was a victim too, as the light changed green she decides to indicate & turn by then I was nearing the front of her vehicle already & gesturing to her WTF!!! while she quickly had to swerve out of the way & speeding off to save face. I'm sure she'll remember to indicate well in advance next time.
