I'm sorry for what happened to you, but I'm also quite sure that your side of the story is probably not as innocent as you make it out to be.

For your information, we have just as much right to use the road as anyone else. If there is a slow moving car in front of you what do you do? You wait for the correct opportunity and you pass him. Just do the same with cyclists its not that difficult, and I'm sure you weren't on your way to do lifesaving surgery so arriving at you destination 2mins later wouldn't have killed you.

I agree. Cyclists and cars need to learn to tolerate each other and use the road in co existence. most cyclists when driving see a cyclist they exercise caution when overtaking but other road users do not always do this.

Im sorry zeepee. But if you have met me you will have a different opinion.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It had nothing to do with me being late for a ride. It is principal I am getting at. But I am glad that you read with blinkers on and single out a sentence. Hope you were not the birdie flipping dude I encountered...

Wink

And unfortunately you do not have right to the road. Until you pay and license your bicycle as a road categorized vehicle that conforms to basic road and traffic regulations... (lights, indicators, brake lights and number/identification plate). It is not your entitlement to the usage of the roads. But maybe I am wrong and you have all of then at minimum Smile

No, i usually train by myself so dont get into these situations often. I do however defend my spot on the road aggressively, exactly because of what you said, cars are bigger and heavier than me and I'll come off second best in a crash.

I didnt read with blinkers on, i just highlighted that your attitude towards cyclists on the road does not seem to be very tolerant. Which is a huge problem in this country, cyclists should always have right of way. In Europe pedestrians and cyclists have more right that motorists on the road.

I dont understand why motorists in SA have such a god complex as soon as they get into their cars.

Just chill-out on the roads and be more tolerate towards other road users.

What happened to this woman is terrible, but i dont believe cyclist would resort to this type of behaviour if it wasnt provoked.

I think our National Road Agency should look into the European way of seeing things in this respect. The rest of our government departments always want to be just like over overseas rulings... <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Just wish that the way the advanced counties see things, (horse before machine concept) and adopt them too.

But yes, I am not very tolerant with road users that retaliate on a kind gesture with uncalled for arrogance. Be it Car, truck, bike, cycle or pedestrian.

One of the most ignorant statements I have read on the hub for a long time.  But don't feel alone though.  95% of SA motorists join you in your ignorance. Nothing personal Loon.

A slow car/motorbike will move to the left to let faster traffic go past (well they should anyway). So why can't the cyclists?

I wont because when I do you, the motorist, will find a gap 2mm big enough to squeeze past, swerving in front of oncoming traffic and shoving me, the cyclist, off the road just to get passed to be 2min earlier at work......

The LAW gives me 1.5m FROM THE YELLOW LANE!!!

HELL NO......you WILL WAIT untill it is safe!!  My family depends on that!!!!!!Angry

(And I am not talking about riding abreast!!  That is a different story.....)

Not wanting to start any wars...
However, I have to ask, why can they not also be thoughtful and ride to the left. We are all trying to find a solution and riding in the middle of the road i do not feel is the best one.

I am a roadie and have been for 16 years, and even i loose patience with some of the guys on the roads at the moment.

Have you seen the state the roads are in on the far left hand side due to busses and taxi's misuse every single piece of road available to them...

I'd rather have one or two pipes in their cars get angry at me than dodge broken glass and rocks on the side of the road. Hit a golfball size rock at 50km/h and see what happens.......Cry

No thanks, I'd rather take the abuse and hurl some back than slide over rough tar in lycra......

hmmm <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

But taxi's are a law un to themselves... Yet... I must add. That they are more courteous to cyclists than most other cars

Bateleur1... Non taken. But maybe you should have a read up on where your taxes go and for what they are used... Also have a look-see in the traffic regulations, and educate your opinion on road usage. There unfortunately does not include bi-cycles... EXCEPT in a designated cycle path or lane...

The similar concept applies to no riding on hiking trails...
