Was about to post this and noticed Mr Crosby has been on here already today FREAKY!

Walking the streets of Jo'burg as a young guy in the late sixties and seventies, I had no idea what the fashion thing with peace signs, military insignia and leather sandals was all about. But we joined in anyway. I remember a small shop called Spiros near the city hall, that sold this stuff.

Almost Cut My Hair about the draft and draft dodging for Vietnam. Fortunate Son about the inequality of the system with a far bigger portion of rich kids and senators' sons being able to evade the draft. And the unfortunate sons doing the fighting.

Ah, Etta James.

What a voice and unfortunately what a sad life story!

When you first start listening to her music it is astonishing how much one "knows" her music, from being played on TV Commercials, radio and those wedding's you referred to.

Ya'll been married so long you forgot how dik inlove you were back then.

I'm here to reignite that flame with some lekker wedding music.

Gov't Mule being one the better one's for me personally.

Jeez. His version really gets me in the feels.

Which is quite an achievement. She had quite a rare vocal range especially for a female.

Some speculate that she had that range as a result of abuse as a kid. She was often beaten into singing. May she rest in peace.

Reminds me of Ray Charles. Who also struggled with heroine addiction.

Was actually thinking which contemporary artists have that old flavour in their voice and not too many come to mine. Adele maybe? Hannah Reid?

I'm not one to bash or say something negative about any artist... If everyone loved the same music, what a boring world this would be. I know I listen to a lot of stuff other people can't stand.

But sheeshomighty I don't get the Adele thing. She is lovely, she has a great sense of humour, and she can sing, but watching and listening to her is just so vanilla and bland for me. No soul, nothing that grabs me. To each their own, right?

I mean, in contrast, Britney from Alabama Shakes? Now, here is someone who can blow me the f*** away with her voice. And man can she play guitar.
