Wel ek wil net vir Deon Maas geluk wens hier is die eerste sl*goffer. Ek wonder hoeveel punte sou die ou kry? n' Swarte wat 'n blanke tref?

S? het ?n bedroefde me. Tanya Teichler (29) gister ges? nadat haar vriend mnr. Piet Boer (34), ?n versekeringsmakelaar van Menlopark in Pretoria, die naweek dood is toe ?n motor di? twee fietsryers van agter getref het.

Boer se vrou, Janet, wat vier maan-de swanger is met hul eersteling, was gister te getraumatiseer om met Beeld te praat.

Volgens Teichler, wat gereeld saam met Boer gaan fietsry het, was hulle op hul padfietse onderweg na Pretoria op die Bakwena N4-tolpad tussen Pretoria en Rustenburg.

?Ons het aan die buitekant van die geel streep gery. Die pad het nouer geword en Piet het voor my inbeweeg en ges? ek moet versigtig wees. Ek het niks gehoor nie, net skielik ?n sl*g gevoel.?

Teichler het in die bosse te lande gekom en Boer het op die teerpad geval.

?Ek het opgespring en na Piet toe gehardloop, maar ek dink hy was dadelik dood. Daar het mense gestop, maar hulle kon niks vir hom doen nie.?

Teichler is lig beseer. Buiten steke in die arm, het sy ?n paar kneus- en skraapwonde opgedoen.

Kapt. Elsab? Augoustides, polisiewoordvoerder, het gister die voorval bevestig en ges? ?n Opel Corsa het die twee fietsryers van agter getref en het daarna omgeslaan.

?Die bestuurder van die Opel Corsa, mnr. Loti Tembo van Soshanguve, is met hoofbeserings in die Brits Medi-Clinic opgeneem, maar is intussen ontslaan.

Volgens Augoustides word ?n klag van strafbare mansl*g ondersoek.

Volgens Teichler het ?n motoris wat glo die botsing gesien het, op die toneel ges? dit het gelyk of Tembo, wat in die noodbaan bestuur het, nie die fietsryers gesien het nie. Toe hy hulle glo uiteindelik gewaar, het hy vergeefs probeer uitswaai.

Boer, ?n driekamp-atleet, het twee Ysterman-kompetisies op sy kerfstok gehad.

Teichler het ges? hulle het voor die ongeluk lekker gesels oor ?n vakansie di? week in Plettenbergbaai waar ?n klomp vriende saam sou oefen.

?Ek sal nooit weer padfiets ry nie. Ons paaie is nie regtig veilig nie. Ons het lank saam gery en altyd die re?ls nagekom. Dan gebeur s? iets.

?Mense gee nie om vir fietsryers nie. Dis nie die moeite werd om weer deur s? iets te gaan nie. Piet was ?n goeie ou, maar in s? ?n kort tydjie is alles weggevat,? het Teichler ges?.

Yes you are. The only roads which are restricted are freeways & highways and are always properly signed.

Windbreaker, i think considering the topic and what has happened you should think before you say something like that! Somebody is dead!  you can't kill somebody in a car by riding into them with your bike whilst riding in the yellow so..

Yellow lane driving is amper net so gewild soos dronk bestuur, of bestuur terwyl jy op jou selfoon is, in SA.  Maas se artikel het niks hier uit te waai nie

Grapkas I have completely missed the reasoning behind your posting. You might not have noticed from my past postings that I take cyclist safety very seriously and I believe that the only way forward in South Africa is to raise the awareness of motorists to what cyclists face (and to try to get a better general tolerance of everyone as road users).

 

So nothing that I will ever post will detract from, or be flippant about, the tragedy of cyclists being knocked down.

 

The point I was making is that although it might be illegal for motorists to use the yellow line I don't think that the cycling community can try to campaign for the enforcement of that rule - unless the authorities change the law to allow cyclists to use the yellow line exclusively.

 

What I meant by "So ..." was along the lines of "so ... what do you do???"

I agree that it is out of place and inappropriate.

 

But I do think that Maas should be made aware of every tragedy like this on the basis that his article was completely insensitive to relatives and friends of anyone who has ever been killed or badly hurt in a motorist/cyclist accident.
