Is it just me or does it seem that the use of the 'F' word has become acceptable (amongst others) in normal conversation?

I would consider it extremely rude to swear in front of (God forbid at!) ladies as taught by my parents but it seems their ideas are becoming outdated .... I would still give Lil'Ben a swift smack to the head if I ever heard him doing that (even at 18!).

But I guess ja that's just me ......

well...it is rude to swear at anybody....not just ladies.Confused

You are 100% correct Embarrassed (I'll edit it before Lil'ben sees it thanks) Wink

I totally agree - today seems a bad day for the hub - way too much swearing!! Even if it has #%$ signs! Not cool.

admin just sent me a pm about the language on the hub, and he's right. even the use of punctuation marks - which is something i rarely do, but did today - to substitute for swear words is wrong. i too think it's getting outta hand here.

Swearing in uncool full bleddy (sorry) stop........gender discrimination is taboo so don't bring the lady thing into it to justify vloeking in the company of one's own gender.......

if nothing - all these plots and sub plots of sensationalism have brought some old hubbers back. I have seen more "new names" with join dates around 2006 than new people. Confused

PI I have no problem with the original poster of this thread or the way in which you described your experience as it is purely to illustrate a point but rather when it is used superfluously or specifically aimed at some one as it would be used in general conversation by some.

In my experience, people who cannot hold a conversation without swearing lack the intelligence to convey their thoughts in a civilized and educated manner. Generally I find, the worse the language the more dim-witted the speaker.

I disagree. I grew up in a not so perfect house where swearing was normal behaviour, along with some other not so nice stuff. I have improved a lot by swearing less, esp in front of my kids and when commentating. But its part of a process, and I still swear. And you cant say I'm more stupid than someone else cause of that. We must realise that no one is perfect. I understand Dick, maybe I wouldnt've sworn, but I will avoid sitting with you at a coffee shop where it is allowed by management to smoke OUTSIDE. Cause I think you need to give people space. So the 2 of you can kiss and make up. Next time speak to the owner of the shop that allows it, or take a copy of the law to him. Dont attak a customer. Same with someone that trains on a public road and lands up in your bunch after you were probably dropped. Relax, and just ride faster. Unless you were at the front of your league race in the closing k's.

I agree with you that "some" can be rather obnoxious.  We were appointed an official waterpoint in one of this months races and also supplied a marshal to assist cyclists.  After foregoing our ride and manning the table from an early start, we rewarded by having a yellow and blue female club rider yell out "what a f***ing stupid place to have a water stop...." and she went on with a few more explicites. But further more, our marshal was also called a f***ing a*****le for not waving cyclists through a green light (????) by the same yellow and blue ilk.  One has to think that if this is the attitude of cyclists out there, its no wonder that we are getting into trouble with the general public.Disapprove

Oh dear BB... although I am perfectly capable of holding a conversation without swearing, I am afraid that sometimes obscenities 'escape' my mouth whilst MTB'ing.

Not intentionally of course, but sometimes when my chain slips off or I realise I'm about to fall or I suddenly lose control and have a close call with death I can't help myself...

I'm certainly not going to say... "Oh darn it, I appear to be staring certain death in the face"  It's so much easier to say Censored

Does this mean you won't like me anymore after we've eventually been on that ride together... or are you gonna deliver smacks to the back of my head too? Disapprove

Hey Nance of course in that case it would be considered 'acceptable under the circumstances' and I may well have passed a few of those very Censored words myself on such occasions. My gripe is with the use of those in 'normal' conversation!

So nope no smacks to the back of the head unless it's Lil'Ben ......
