When buying online from one of the overseas online retailers, what charges are you levied with once the goods arrive in SA? The prices seem good but I just want to see if there are import duties that must be paid as well as VAT. If anyone has had an experiene then let me know if possible and also how long does it take for the goods to arrive.

You will get a slip that states forreign goods and use British Royal mail for the dispatching. If you use UPS it gets stuck with custums. Just shop round first in SA before you order for the fun of it. Maybe same prices availible here. But it is fun getting a package from abroad with bike stuff in it, feels like Chrismas agian again agian
slowtwitch Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I've bought ebay many times. generally if it is not too expensive you don't pay imports. then again (as stated above) I ended paying 30% import duties on a tri wetsuit (was still cheaper than local though) So for bikes, frames etc - do your home work first i.t.o. duties payable

milky4130 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Last Year I Bought off eBay, price paid for item was R3000, had to pay customs R500. Takes about 3 - 4weeks delivery. Insurance optional. Item selling in South Africa now for R5500.
