Jeesszzz guys, Oneday when Im old and wrinckly I might be able to splash out these fairy parts for a bike in a glass display for my mates to come look at.. but Eff..Maintaining these bikes must be horrible...? those bikes  under 8 are "exhibition" bikes.

I would love a 11kg ride, but at that cost I cant Imagin riding the thing the way I trash my blur. and the blur comes back for more.

So how did he get it this light ?

I cannot see anyone riding the epic with normal tires, so just by using normal UST tyres with stans (+-700g per tyre) gives you 1.4kg right there.

How in the world can you get it so light ? and still do the epic ?

Aish! My 08 Epic S-Works is probably about 11 kg with all kinds of lekke stuff on it, you know, the usual XTR cranks XO RD, grippers, Ritchey 4 axis stem, EA70 bars, Magura Martas (love those brakes) Roval Controle E5 wheels..

No wonder I get dropped on the climbs. But you can bomb that rig like nothing else and it loves the beating!

Get lighter wheels. I ride an Alu DS Spezialized with nothing fancy on it and it weighs 11.7kg. Size? The biggest they make.

I saw the bike of the Rocky Mountain lady - Pia Sundstedt - last year at the Epic. She had one of those Carbon Saddles on and did the whole Epic with it. That is what I call tough.

Dunno if I can go lighter than Controle E5's, they pretty weeny at 1400 grams! (mind you I have not *actually* weighed my bike, I am not convinced that the act of doing so will make me any faster!)

I heard that Sauser takes out the connecting rod in the shock - used for extra safety - and save something like 300g. Unpainted bike also saves 100g. They replace the all titanium bolts everyday on the bike.

My 09 Spesh Epic Expert, full XTR (inlc wheelset, except with SRAM Attack gripshifters), KCNC bar, stem, barends and seatpost, Fizik Aliante and SSteel Eggbeaters comes in at 10.5kg. Thats without trying so I think I could get it down further.....

Stringbean, whats the weight of your Epic Expert???
