Well, big congrats to those who kept at it in those conditions. Clap

We sat at a cafe at Hout at 5pm and watched as some riders were still passing. this was 7 hours after we had finished, and soon after many were told that the race was over, damn pity having gone so far, but the wind down past Llandudno was very hectic, much harder than at 9:45 that morning. We stopped just past Llandudno and it shook the car as we watched the sea spray being whipped into all shapes and forms below. Couldnt imaging riding down there, it wasn't safe, and cars were coming up the hill too.

Hi! We must have been close to you cos we were stopped at the bottom of Suikerbossie. they collected our race tags and arranged transport to the finish. We have been promised our medals by post! Hmmm... Had we known that we could actually continue' date=' we certainly would have! btw, did u hear about the 150 odd cyclists who stopped at the top of Suikerbossie and caught hypothermia due to the wind chill factor? [/quote'] ]

That must be a new world record

A few years ago a cold front came in combined with rain. People got severe hypothermia and I am not sure but I think the race also got stopped.

i'm told there was a bit of a ruckus when they stopped all the riders at the top.. . .only cleared up once it was confirmed that they were guaranteed to still get medals!

If you'd cycled your little heart out to make it that far in that wind on Sun day you'd also want a momento!

For me it was about finishing the damn thing. That's why I handed in my number and carried on cycling through to Greenpoint. Collected my medal when I crossed the line.

Not a medal kinda guy but this one is special.

Skipper: well done on finishing!! It was a bugger - you deserve that medal!! Keep all the newspaper articles as well - as a sore reminder

No it did not

There is a huge difference between a cut off and stopping the race.

Anyway the 150 soldiers should have squeezed into the tea room around the corner for a cuppa and a cream bun the they would have been fine

By the way...was I the only hubber with a smartie box on my back?

Didn't see any.

Then again I was in group OS and finished in a remarkably fast time of 6hrs.
