Hi, when ever I drink Energade, and only the brand Energade, I get the most painful stomach cramps and need to take ENOs Dead. This is a problem I've had in the past too.

Does anybody else have these kind of problem, and does anybody know what in Energade can cause this. I'm still new to these kind of drinks and not so sure what must and must not be in them (besides the obvious).

You're lucky.

When I drink Powerade, I get kidney stones.  Without fail!

And no one, to date, can tell me why.......http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/headscratch.gif

Never had the problem, although I have had it with the USN drink, which is a dilema for me because I like the stuff.

Think stuff like this affects different people differently, doesn't mean the productive is defective.

I used to get very bad stomach cramps on my motorbike(offroad), had it so bad in one race i had to quit. I used Energy Dynamics Octane in my bladder, changed to EAS also got cramps. Started using GU20 and hasnt happened yet.

Its never happened on the bicycle before

Can be a few things in there which are giving you the cramps but to isolate which one of the ingredients is not agreeing with you is not worth the effort.

Switch to something else rather, it will be easier - try looking for a drink with no preservatives then you are all natural and should not have a problem other than taste.

Maybe you should carry on drinking it and have a huge multimillion rand court case about all the pain you have been in etc.

Oh ya, that only works in the states, it seems like big fish in this country can walk out of any trouble that they have got themselves in.

On a more serious note though

If you are trying to use energade when racing, there is far better stuff to drink instead.

These normal "energy" drinks dont really cut it when you compare it proper energy drinks.

Go and look for yourself at the side of a energade/powerade bottle, I havent bought one for ages, but as far as I can remember it is a basic flavored carb drink with some added sodium I think.

Now go for a little walk down the nutritional foods isle.

DONT look at any prices yet, but go and grab a bottle of cytomax (or active-ade if you shop at pick n pay)

Take a look at what goes into making a proper sports drink. There is different types of carbs (your body uses different systems to absorb different sugars, so you can get much more in at a time.) It also contains the minerals and electrolytes that you loose in the race. Some of the drinks even contain stimulants which can give you the edge as well.

The BIG question : Do these drinks actually work or is it just a load of who ha with with big words on the bottle.

I can personally say that I have used active-ade for a while now (the one with stimulants) and I can feel a difference. My post ride recovery is a lot quicker as well, because my body hasnt hit rock bottom from the ride as it would if you had ridden it without suplements.

Just watch out with using something that has stimulants in the afternoon though, you could end up counting sheep at night. smiley5.gif

It is different for everyone though, so you need to find what works for you. I just dont think it is going to be in that bottle of energade though.

I also get horrible stomach cramps from Energade, but not from Powerade. The energy drinks in powder form(USN, EVOX etc) are fine no problems

Thanks Woofie, why I started the thread after having to down some ENOs after the Energade I drank this morning. Was at the shop for lunch (1km walk from the office) and was thirsty, trying to cut out fizzy drinks and thought I would give Energade a go.

But on the Active-Ade, I will go get some this evening. Learnt to ignore being price sensative on these things - no sense in me spending R8 on 500ml of liquid that needs another R8's worth of ENOs just to recover from cause I don't want to spend R15 on a better product.

cool, not all the pick n pays have it, the bigger ones should though. I went to go and pick some more up at canal walk one earlier the one at my house is running low on the active range so i dont know whats up with that. Hope they are not going to discontinue it.

If they had to I would move to cytomax, similar ingredients, the active-ade has added L-Glutamine as well which helps for muscle recovery.

Hope you find some!
