This morning, while doing my usual weekend long ride I was attacked by a black male with a screwdriver. This incident happened at 06:30, right in front on the Plant Ranch Garden Centre in Centurion. The attacker tried to stab me with a screwdriver while I was pedaling up <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />

Rabie Street
. (The incident happened where
Rabie Street
crosses with
Von Willich Avenue
.) I managed to dodge the stab, but in the process the front wheel of my road bike slid on some loose gravel on the road. I don?t know how I managed to stay on top of my bike (it must have been the angels working over time today to keep me upright and thanks to my Mountain Biking skills) as my knees almost touched the ground in the process of dodging the stab. To all cyclist in the Centurion area, please be aware of this hi-jack hot spot.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Wimpers, please call Lyttleton police station and go and report this.

We must find and eradicate these bliksems!! smiley7.gif If we don't report it, it is only us against them. A little help from the police won't hurt!

I wasn't completely on my own either. About 5seconds before the incident, I passed two runners. It just shows you that these criminals don't care. I can't tell you how upset and furious I am!AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

Glad you're ok. I know it's not always easy, but please team up with buddies to go ride. Cowards that they are, will think twice before they take on 4 or 5 guys. My heart almost stops everytime I see a hijack thread.  Be safe!!!

Glad to hear you are ok wimpers.  Thanks for posting this report. It is a great help to fellow cyclists to know where / when incedents took place.  I would not have thought a single individual would be a risk, just makes you realise how wrong you can be. Take care of yourself and get plenty r&r, even though you got away this is a pretty traumatic experience that can mess with your mind & body. Don't be afraid to get professional help if you need it. All the best

Fritz Pienaar in Centurion runs regular workshops on safety and self defence for cyclists. Attended one 2 weeks ago. Pretty informative.

Phew! Fanie Fiets also almost got hi-jacked a while ago near Milnerton in CT.

Best is to cycle with a small fire-arm when you go out early.
