So Who's the Idiot who cant swop pedals.. ? Do you think a person that cant figure out this can replace batteries in the TV remote or Even work rapidfire shifters?Dead

Gee my krag.. Just Put spanner on' date=' give it a few beats with the palm of your hand to see which way is loose If you cant do it the "brainy" way.. It comes loose, now take the same one off the other bike and swap them this way you cant even get confused..

Gee thanks B0S1000 - I wish you replied first, it would have saved me the trouble of reading all the other advice in this thread.

You really do have a way with words - are you by chance a school teacher?

As for batteries in TV remotes - I generally have my children do that for me. But please, please, do explain how to use rapidfire shifters. I honestly have no clue...

BOS - my little one is two years old - but she's a friggin genius with remotes! No problems - my reply was firmly tongue in cheek - but tone is always a problem over the net.

Of course I haven't tried tinkering yet - when my wife sees me and a toolbox, I get hit with a list of handyman jobs that would make Bob the Builder cry... And whilst I'm sure it will take mere moments - I get home late in the evenings, and I'm away early in the mornings... I don't have time to spare on tinkering - so I get as much info on the Hub beforehand - that way all remains peaceful at home Tongue...  AND, I get to have more time to spend with the little princess!

Of course, the fact that the usual banter on the Hub entertains me no-end, also adds to my reasons for posting first - and tinkering later...

As for the rapidfires - I'm quite happy with my DualControl pods, fanks very much Wink...

Cool, Strongly tongue in cheek Is Kind of where I was with that.. I was a littlebit disgusted at the lack of respect for fellow men when reading the "bridge in tokai" thread this morning...and When you replied now I realised I might have come across the same, and It was not the intention at all.

Hope you come right with the pedals ther bro, Enjoy the littleone, my eldest sister has a little girl of is 14months now and the joy she gives all of us is amazing I cant stop smiling when she walked around the house this weekend (we were all together for easter) Are you from Ceris? Cause they stay In Hamlet..works with Robert Graaf Fruit...anyway

I love my dual controlls to many peoples disgust and Im convinced they give me the edge..Wink

I've actually read a post about this on another forum, and what really works for me is as follows (tying in with what most people have said on this thread):

1. Put right pedal in 3'o clock position (in other words facing to the front)

2. Put right foot on pedal

3. Put number 15 spanner around nut and pull spanner back towards you

4. Right pedal should be loose now

5. Place left pedal in 9'o clock position (facing forward)

6. Place left foot on pedal

7. Put spanner around nut and pull backwards (towards you)

8. Left pedal should now be loose

By stepping on each pedal when loosening the nut, you give yourself leverage and therefore make it easier for the nut to come loose.

Just another method to try if you get stuck Smile

Rod

The easy way to remember is that it loosens towards the chain/towards the cassette, and then "obviously" fastens in opp direction.

15 spanner will work well, just make sure it doesnt slip. Allen key could be a real knuckle buster if the pedals are slightly tight.

Used the Allen key approach last night ["...I prefer the circular saw approach..."].

Insert.

Turn.

Turn.

Turn.

Turn.

Turn.

1x right pedal, removed.

I can only assume the other side to be as simple - ditto my friend's bike tomorrow.

Thanks all Big%20smile... It was emotional.

Dont buy a cheap 15 spanner get a Real Gedore or a Parktool pedal spanner. The cheap spanners from P&P will work once or twice and then it is bleeding nukles as the thing slips off.

I've never given it much thought but read a very useful tip in the Feb issue of MTBUK.

With your bike standing on the ground and you facing the crank arm. Let the arm point forward. Now attach the allen key or spanner and let it point backwards. Now press down it it will loosen it. The same goes for the other side as it is threaded differently.

Ok, in the mag they had the bike upside down and they pulled up but who turns their bike upside down to take the pedals off.

The important thing to remeber is LEFT and RIGHT.

The pedal on the lefthand side has a lefthand thread, which means it screws out the wrong way. The righthand side has a righthand thread (normal thread) and screws out the correct way.

remember to grease the thread when putting the pedals back on.  THe pedals will grown and moan like a cheap whore that hasn't been paid if you don't.

Thanks all...

As it turns out, whilst getting my pedals off were a cinch on my own - same could not be said about my buddy's bike... My allen key was too small to generate enough power on it - and no amount of yanking moved the gedore 15 an inch... His were sealed in nice and tight...

Had 2 of us had a go, we probably would've won, but the idea was to have me take his for a spin whilst I had both bikes on my own... so no luck!

At least my pedals were greased before being returned, you know - so as to avoid the moaning and groaning like a *cheap* lady of the night... Embarrassed
