World Champs

Anyone went down to PMB for World Champs? Best cycling weekend ever! More than 10 000 tickets sold.

Dissapointment: Live TV feed to 35 international countries; NOT in SA, unless I missed it, not even a mention on the news. SA got the contract for next 4/ 5 years to present in PMB, the crowds were awsome, how do we get the media involved in this worldclass event - we're gonna need it to get sponsors on board to collect R8m for next year...

HAhahaha thats pretty funny. Argh SA media only thinks rugby, cricket and soccer are newsworthy sport. Not even paris-roubaix,as exciting as it was, made it to a newspaper back here in rainbow nation.

Well, according to the GT and Kenda ads in the various SA cycling mags, Burry is the u/23 World Champion.

It wasn't the World Champs, just round 1 of the World Cup series. So no world champ yet. (The world champ titles, eg. Burry's mentioned above, are from last year.)

Yip, SA's Greg Minnaar won the downhill. (TV/ Pic's don't do downhill justice, you have to see this to appreciate!)

XC - 1st Jose hermida Ramos (Multivan Merida), 2nd Julien Absalom Current World Champ - Orbea), 3rd Burry.

Burry came 3rd overall in the Elite Cat but won the U23's

The vibe around the course was similar to a Final on Loftus - you had to be there to understand. I'm sure Burry will mention how the crowds cheered & helped him

Mamparra is spot-on. This was the firs of the world-cup series. Burry is the current U23 WC Champ

Back to the lack of coverage: i was thinking the same thing, this was one of the biggest events in cycling to be hosted in SA and there was nothing on besides freecaster online. Cant we afford the rights or do we just not care. I thought there would be massive coverage like on the epic, nothing!! The local shows missed it this week propably next week will be a big show on it but its a week later. I dont get it. Is MTB that small or was everyone away on a long weekend. Im so dissapointed ( I was going to attend but stayed with my newborn thinking there would be good coverage)

Oh and nothing on the news, not even a proudly south african Go Greg

At last! Someone sharing my concerns. Question is, where do we start putting pressure? Would petitions to CSA strengthen their hand, or perhaps directly to M Net/ SABC. There are 1000's of fanatic cyclists (and their families out there, surely we must be seriously if we require more airtime?

Put pressure on CSA for what?

Contact the broadcasters rather, perhaps more requests directly from the public would display the demand for that kind of content.

Sean sent press releases to just about every media group around, unfortunately it seems that mainstream media can't or wont see past rugby, cricket and soccer.

At least the The Witness had a front page article and photo followed with a double page feature on pages 4 and 5. Thats some serious coverage space, if only a few others had followed through with even a quarter of that.
