Wild West Road Ride

So OX2 and your WW cronies, with this monster ride on the 27th in my legs, will I be able to ride the MTB XC thingy at the bike park the next day?

I see the old toppies will be riding 5 laps of the 5.8 k loop, so a td under 30k's. You gonna kill us , or will I be able to take a chance on both?

It will also be one of the first rides on the MTB, that I will only be getting this weekend! Is this wise or not?

Maybe I should just forget the 28th altogether?

Trubie - make sure you got something in the bag for that XC race. In my experience those things are at 110% from start to finish. No easing into it!

Also I believe it's quite a technical course but I have no experience of it myself ........... How many times will you have MTBed before that?

That was my take on it also, I think i'll rather give it a miss. Just thought seeing as its only 30 k's , would be cool to start off with, but it will most likely be the first time on the bike, unless I do some riding on it next week, which I very much doubt.

Would also be pretty devastating to be lapped 4 times!!

Trubes, MTB is not like road cycling where you pick a wheel and just stay in the zone.... It is WAAAY more like continuous intervals...

Dunno, if you are the adveturous type (and have a bit of MTB/BMX/Moto-X experience which will stand you in good stead), give it a go on the 28th, else sharpen your teeth (technical skills) first....

Remember 2km on MTB is a minimum of 3km on the road.... and then the technical stuff need to come into the equation, skewing the kms further away from the roadie stuff

When do they close the course for practicing/training/ridinf in BigBen?

No prob, let me get the hang of it and we can go do whatever tickles your fancy

will do some "training" rides in Rietvlei first with some old buds, but mainly the idea is to compliment the road training with some off road stuff.

my only x-country experience is on 2 legs, so no kamikaze round wheelstuff yet.

I did ride lotsa motocross races with my old bomber way before my 13th birthday couple years agoWink

Has the route been finalised?  Is it the one on page 3? Some of the directional arrows through the cradle and Muldersdrift look very confusing. I am considering riding with the social guys at the back as I have only ridden 2 or 3 times since completing the Wilro 100 in April.

We start at Riverstone Lodge, turn left into the T2, down the T3, left onto the N14, right at Pinehave intersection to go up the hill into Krugerdorp. Turn left into Voortrekker Road, Turn left into Van Oordt. Turn Left into Robert Broom. Turn right onto the R563. Down the hill past Sterkfontein Hospital. Over the N14 intersection. Turn right into Sterkfontein Caves route. Go on straight towards the T3 again. Turn left onto T3. Go through traffic circle to go past the  Rhin& Lion park. Carry on straight till the 3 way stop to turn right onto Beyers Naude extension. Turn right to go onto the T2, and turn left at the circle to go back to Riverstone.

Will add distances sometime over the weekend..

Cool, would be nice to meet some of the Hubbers. And the route looks lekker.

Thanks Agteros, I see where I was previously making a false assumption.  Thought we were going straight onto the N14.  Silly me that would have been far too easy.  Seems like I have been unilaterally co-opted onto the ride.

The idea with the route was to make it a bit un-flat for the flatland riders... smiley36.gif

Agteros, after the SBR ride yesterday we going to have to work on a new route for WWRR2! Make it even more unflat. Those flatland riders that go to SBR are going to find it a bit flat. Even the 42 chain ring is unlikely to bother Slave after SBR.

smiley36.gif I'm going for a recon drive (not ride) later, will add the profile by tonight...

So, how many meters of vertical ascent is there in one SBR loop?
