LBS vs CRC prices

Recommended Posts

CWC beats from CRC prices

That's because CWC bring most of their own stuff into SA and cut out the local distributors. Their prices are fantastic as a result.

Well I'm going to support the LBS that beats or matches CRC. Sure, I'm prepared to pay for service and convenience but don't rip me off with a smile and expect me to come back.

For the stuff I'm looking to get this year, my LBS is tops on prices - if yours isn't, then change your LBS.

Jaco Fiets,

whether you or a distributor imports the shoes, someone will incur the 40% import duty. You will also pay the 14% VAT...

Often, it is not worthwhile importing the goods.

Okay, lets say the prices are the same, but the one thing that CRC has that most LBS don't have is this: The convenience of sitting on your ass ordering your impulse buy on the net.

I've got a serious online shopping problem, I'll admit it, but it's just so easy! Why do I want to get in my car, drive around looking for what I want and then only buy it? And what about those nights where you get some brainfart at 10pm about a new part for your bike? You can't wake your LBS owner up at 10, but you can order your new goodies and then feel like a kid when it finally arrives! It's a much more satisfying experience!

I guess it's fairly obvious that I have issues...

Some LBS are worth supporting even if prices are a little more . Some are not.  I like CRC as the have a hugh range that no LBS in SA will ever have Confused.

Most time i buy though is when i need it and dont want to wait

Sure, but you'll only pay import duty and VAT on new stuff. So if you're after the e-bay bargains you're still OK.

If SARS are on their game (and, unlike most other branches of government, they often are) and the seller hasn't (illegaly) under-declared the value and content of the parcel then you should still pay VAT and duties on 2nd hand stuff.

Was again at my LBS this afternoon and we chated about prices. He knows he has to compete against CRC and his prices show it. Actually' date=' all the items I got prices for are cheaper to get from my LBS than CRC.Example: My LBS is charging R185 for 8 Speed Shimano chain (full SS) vs R230 CRC; Shimano 520 Pedals are cheaper locally and not just CWC than CRC;My LBS was even telling me about shocks on special at CRC, an email he recieved this morning. South African prices where R2500 cheaper!!!I will still use CRC to do pricing, but it looks like I will be buying all my goods locally Tongue also helps that I live next door to a cycling parts rep too.[/quote']

So who is the LBS .... ?

In DH equipment, nothing compares to CRC. Bought a full kit and some bike spares for less thatn a third of what I would've paid anywhere in SA

Imagine a LBS that has the variety of stuff that you can get from CRC! I think that is one of the reasons that makes CRC so attractive

After placing a few orders on CRC my LBS is terrified.  now if I ask for a quote, the first thing he asks is if I have checked online.  Knowing I'm not afraid to shop online his prices have become way more competitive.
