A bit more than a year ago Bernard Kapp was very badly injured when he crashed in to a stationary car. He suffered nine fractures to his face, his nose was ripped open and he broke the second vertebra in his neck. He lost his front teeth and his pallet had to be rebuilt. He spent six weeks in the <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Tygerberg Hospital.

But Bernard is a fighter and has a strong will, and 12 months later he participated in the Contego Short Circuit MTB Race and apart from a scar or two, he showed no signs of discomfort.

According to his mother Bernard is doing well. He is halfway through grade 11, but school and homework come second. All he can think about is his bike. He will be going back for a follow up medical check up within the next few days. They hope that the doctors will shed light on the slight pain he experiences on cold days in his neck and face.

Speaking to Bernard and his mother, it is clear that the support provided to the family by Hubbers from, around the country, is still very special to them.
